We had our first-time farm fresh eggs at the farmers market last month. (our two hens are too old to lay)
They were all brown and my children were so excited.
When I cooked scrambled eggs next morning using those wonderful eggs, my youngest was somewhat dissapointed.
Comes to find out he thought since the shell was brown, the eggs should have tasted chocolate!! lol
Brown cow = chocolate milk mentality I guess

The cool guy who sold us his eggs at the market said that you can predict the egg shell color by the chicken's earlobe. Does your olive egg layer have a set of olive earlobe???

no none of them have olive earlobes, I've never heard of that before, but I can tell you that all my chickens have pretty much the same, fleshy colored earlobes regardless of the color of their eggs!!!

As you can see from my siggy line, I have quite a variety, I can not wait to see what colors we will get. Having raised a variety of parrots, we know a little something about genetics. But to watch and think about chicken colors and egg colors seems way more interesting to me. LOL
