Birchrun, what variety is s/he supposed to be?

The beard and muff look to be very nice quality. For some varieties the beard is supposed to match and in others to contrast. This is speaking in general--don't know ameraucanas specifically.

He is supposed to be a blue wheaten. I have never had BW before and I know he is young just looking to see if indeed that is what he is.

He does look similarly colored by my blue wheaten cockerel; here's the most recent pic of him at 4 weeks:

He came from a very reputable breeder...but I'm not an Ameraucana expert.

Okay, I googled "blue wheaten ameraucana" and looked at a bunch of photos (not EEs)

My concerns, and know this is not a breed or colour I work with, are that his gender and colouring don't quite match--he seems to display a mix of gender--based upon plumage colouring.

In general, females have breasts of a different colour than the rest of their body--often lighter, and or more salmon. This fits your bird. However, he seems to be developing red in his male pattern areas (hackles, shoulders, back). I don't see red on his saddle, though.

I didn't find any photos of developing ameraucanas, blue wheaten or otherwise--only newly hatched and adult. For me this is often a problem--I would love to see a set of photos of different varieties at the partially developed stages.
