I noticed. But some of the photos of blue wheaten boys also have a lot of blue. The girls shouldn't, though--they should be pretty much all wheaten coloured, but with blue replacing the black in their tail.

Very nice BW. I would not worry about color right now as it will change more after first molt when they have true adult color.

Thanks all, I am really hopeful this is going to turn out to be a really nice adult. I do think it is a cockerel at this point and he seems pretty nicely built so far. All of my 8 week olds are starting to moult now.

You can see pics of my birds on my website. I too have the WBS Ameraucana. However the pics I have are either younger or older than yours. If I can find the time I am going to make a photo documentary of the monthly development of my chicks this year. That should help others and it sure will definitely help my memory!

He is just about the age where you can see that his leg coloring is starting to change. The beard and muff quality is good and you will see it start to darken in a couple of months.

This is a standard color of ameraucana. He looks pretty good at this point. He is a blue wheaten.

The wheaten and blue wheaten varieties, in my opinion are the hardest to raise as the males take forever to mature into their adult plumage. It can take up to 20 weeks for most of his feathers to come in, there are obvious things that you can cull for earlier, but the better ones take forever.

The leg color does take a while to come in on some birds, and others sometimes do not change correctly. It is a common defect in this variety.

He doesn't look like any Blue Wheaten I ever saw.

Do they look the same to you? They don't to me.

BTW-Not sure the " What??? You're a ...." was really necessary. Assuming for purposes of this discussion that is normal Blue Wheaten juvenile plumage it's not how the bird would be shown & if shown it would be disqualified because it doesn't match the standard description.
That said I've not raised Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas so I have no idea how they develop. I have raised a few Blue Wheaten OEGBs & have not seen a cockerel go through that colour phase. I'm not a genetisist but it seems the same colour variety in the 2 breeds would develop in similar fashion.
