AMERAUCANA HENS: QUIET OR NOISY?

Thanks everyone for the info!

Garden Girl, Sorry, I'm still getting used to how this forum is organized...On my behalf, I did do three searches on all forums re: Ameraucanas using the search words 'noise', 'noisy' and 'quiet' and never saw your thread...Where am I going wrong? Please offer any suggestions you may have! I also wish that the forum topics were defined better for us newbies out there...Some are self-explanatory, but some seem to overlap and it's hard to fugure out where to post.

Anyway, thanks again!!!

OOPS! Garden Girl, I totally misunderstood your message...I thought you were scolding me for asking the same question you had already asked in a previous thread!!! O.K. Maybe I should learn to read!!!

That reminds me--I had an Easter Egger cockerel that was the noisiest thing ever. He squealed constantly! If I gave them a treat, he was always the first in line to grab it, and would run around squealing so loud that everyone ignored anything else I put down. If I was one of the others I would have pecked him to shut up, it was so annoying! (but lots of personality). Had to "rehome" him, RIP Squeaky.

Hi Alys! My Ameraucana girls are the most quiet birds here. I've never noticed the make the fuss and ruckus noise when they lay an egg.
They are timid to the point that if they hear a stranger / strange noise --- they all run to the coop and you'd never know they were here. Shy birds...

I just didn't want to clutter up the board with a question that was simple and probably answered, but I couldn't find on a search.

Oh, and

by the way.

My Ameraucana is really quiet. I don't even hear her when she lays an egg. She's really docile and runs up to me, probably for food and let's me pick her up all the time. I really like this breed. Plus she lays everyday, sometimes they're double-yolked eggs.

My rooster crows from 5-7 a.m. and occasionally during the day. The hens are much quieter. You almost never hear them. It's a good thing we're in the country though. I think Edgar would make most folks annoyed that were trying to sleep in.
