Ameraucana males or females?

Those two are definitely looking a bit roosterish to me but hopefully they’re female!! The neck feathers on the white one look nice and rounded to me and on males they’re usually pointed. Also I think the white birds usually get red leakage on the neck and shoulders if they’re males at least from what I’ve seen but of course not always.

Also I know it’s already been addressed but if he said they’re also called EEs then I would say they definitely are. :)

True Ameraucana and Araucana are never called that. They’re very particular about it haha

You can also tell by how the chicks are all different colors.

True Ameraucanas are usually sold by the color. So for example, Black Ameraucana, Wheaten, etc. they wouldn’t just sell them as “Ameraucana”, because most people are looking for a specific color. And if they were selling a bunch of colors, they would still likely list all the colors they’re selling.

They also only lay blue eggs whereas EEs could lay blue, green, pink, olive, even possibly brown depending.

And EE can be basically any feather or egg color.

Hope that helps.

Your birds are very pretty. :love

Thank you! Yes I believe they are EE’s! Still hoping that they will both magically be females guess we will find out when they crow or lay an egg! Haha I do like the idea of all different coloured eggs I think that’s pretty good!

I hope they are too!!! But yes, sometimes it can be so hard to tell!!! I had one that I went back and forth on for so long!! I had people telling me it was a male but I didn’t believe them because it still looked female to me LOL ended up being a boy 😭 I hope for better luck for you though!! And yes, sometimes crowing or eggs are the only way lol this guy was vocal 😂🤣 and yesss I love the different colored eggs!!! I have mostly brown layers but even those are different shades of brown and I also have two EEs and a white egg layer. I had three EEs. I love them and they all laid different colored and size eggs. It’s awesome haha

Well, I definitely have hope that the white one could be a female.

Typically by 2 months or more, males start growing in their saddle feathers. Some sooner or later than others, so hopefully you will know sooner! The blue and gold EE i had is now about 3 months old, and all rounded feathers.. I was looking forward to her being a male if I'm being honest. I actually have a chick that's almost 2 months that's showing the rooster saddles. Maybe I'll take a pic and share!

Both look like cockerels.

Uhh ohhh 😢 guess we will find out soon!

yes that would be great if you took a picture so I could see what I need to be looking out for! 😊

Here is a young cockerel, about 2 months old. I'm 100% sure its a male just because of the rooster feathers growing out here :)

If you are familiar with what rooster saddle feathers look like, they are shiny, long and tapered feathers.

Here is what I assume is a sibling, who I'm leaning towards pullet because all her saddle feathers are still round! These two look identical almost, but the top one is definitely a male. This last pic is more than likely a female!

I am not convinced the any of these are cockerels. Easter Eggers are tricky. Any one of your lovely birds could still go either way. I had a young pullet, that I was convinced was a cockerel for the longest time. She had attitude and was the first to do everything, ended up being the boss lady. Hold out until you are sure, you would not want to give away/get rid of/sell/eat any of your young pullets by mistake! :)

And last to add, here is my blue gold EE now. Her saddle is all rounded feathers. Wish it was a male still!! View attachment 2141744
This is such a beautiful lady!😍😍😍 I will have to start looking out for the saddle feathers on them.

Is it a sign of a male if they have pointed thin feathers around the neck and tail? I have this chicken I’ve always thought was female but her feathers are very pointy but she has no comb atall these chicks are really confusing me! Haha

yes I’m not ready to give any of them up yet until I know for sure! I’ve become so attached to all of them!
