Ameraucana or Easter Egger

I have chicks that look just like these and was told they were Plymouth Rocks. Pretty sure they are not Plymouth Rocks ! they are a silver color ! looked just like the baby in second picture. Looking for info on what they are !

Do you have any pictures? There are lots of knowledgable folks on this site. I'm sure someone will know the answer to your question.

You should indeed have pretty birds and colored eggs. That's the great thing about EEs!

The seller probably thought her birds are really Ameraucanas--they probably came from a hatchery as such, so why would she doubt that?

If/when you ever decide you want a true purebred Ameraucana, talk to the breeder about what color their birds are. Any serious breeder of any bird can tell you what colors they breed. Real color names, not "well, my rooster is black and white, and my hens are mostly a brownish color but one is gold and one has some blue on her". Ameraucana breeders will tell you their birds are Wheaton, black, things like that.
You know, there is this hatchery in Quebec that offered 'Ameraucanas' for $12 a chick (STRAIGHT RUN!) I was not happy to see them so obviously overpriced for what was definitely not Ameraucanas. I confronted them on it and this is what they told me..

ME:What colour variety are your Ameraucanas? They look like simple Easter Eggers to me, and of no actual variety.
Them: These are the american version of the Ameraucan has tal feathers unlike thir ancestors. If you have any more questions please call toll free

I said something else that is long and explaining how they are EEs..
Them: I bought them in a Federal inspected hatchery. They are the real american ameraucana with the balck spots. If you think they are not I cant help you. The pictures does not reflect the real beauty of the bird. Maybe you shoulg get them in the USA at Murray Mc Murray.

Honesty can't believe how many people I see selling 'Ameraucanas" that show no representation of variety. Ah well. Coloured eggs are what most people are after. I just don't know why they can't just sell them as Easter Eggers? I get lots and lots of requests for just the coloured eggs!

I hope it's OK if I also ask the crew on this page...I have a couple of chicks that I think might be EE's instead of Ameraucanas, but it would be nice to have the group's opinion. They are about 5 weeks..

Yep, they are all EEs, none are Ameraucanas. They are all nice chickens that still will give you colorful eggs! :D

Yes - that's what I figured...and that's ok - they are a couple of very nice girls, and we'll keep our fingers crossed for colour in those eggs. I understand with EE's that colourful eggs are not a guarantee...Thank you so much for answering! :)
