Hello everyone! This is Thistle and she is ~20 weeks old. I got her as a chick from Murray McMurray. She was advertised as an Ameraucana but I know that doesn't necessarily mean she isn't an EE! She fits the Ameraucana standard to the "T" with exception of her color. Is she a color cross? She's got slate legs and lays blue-green eggs. I don't really care if she's actually an EE (we don't plan on breeding), I was just curious. We love her black beard & muffs! We also have another Ameraucana from MM and she doesn't fit the standard quite as clearly but also lays blue-green eggs (they were the first in our group that started to lay!)

That is a lovely EE

ETA - MM actually comes out and says that their birds are EE, even though they have them labeled as Arauacana/Ameraucana -- it's written in a way to imply they are true birds, but with enough sidestepping to cover their butts as they do tell you they are mixed.

Quote: This unusual breed gets in name from the Indian tribe of Chilie where they were first discovered. Our chicks have some Araucana and some Ameraucana blood mixed and consequently are not for show but are beautiful chickens known for their ability to lay colored eggs of shades varying from turquoise to deep olive to shades of brown. Each bird will typically lay a different shade of colored egg that will amaze your friends and make a wonderful "show and tell" type project for school. Adults are of medicum size with pea combs and our breeding stock are selected for their ability to produce colored eggs. They exhibit a wonderful combination of colors and color patterns and 10 or 20 of these birds will make an absolutely beautiful laying flock that is extremely hardy and will be the talk of the town. Baby chicks come in all colors, plain and fancy, just like the adults. This is a unique breed and great fun to have when the colored eggs start coming. Our chicks are recommended for egg laying color and ability, not for exhibition.

Thanks! That's what we were guessing.

They changed the description about 3 months after we bought them. I noticed that they now say that they can lay a variety of egg colors but when we bought them they only advertised blue & green eggs (though they did say that their birds were not for showing). They also changed the bird size and egg size from medium to large. The change to their website is what led me to ask!
