Ameraucana Projects Thread

Does anyone on here know if any of the hatcheries have any true Ameraucana chicks? I can't find any breeders around my area and would have to ship from hatchery, but I have heard they are all actually Easter eggers
Cackle stocked from a Real Am breeder - somebody bought some and they said they look to have yellowish legs. Dunno if they crossed to EE or Leghorns for productivity or what..... Hatcheries that do sell what they claim to be "real ameraucanas" are not selectively breeding but mass producing - plus $15+ price tag per chick .............. and shipping on top of that.

When I had Cackles EE I never got a Yellow legged one. Not saying you couldn't get one though.

Hi! I have just finished reading this thread...took me 4 days...I am interested in the genetics, but have no pure bred any things. Here is my rooster...
I don't know anything about him except that he is supposed to be an EE, was given to us last spring, don't even know how old he is. While we were away last summer we had our hatchery black australorp go broody and hatch out 6 eggs. Never saw 2 of the chicks, snake got them right away. The four that were left, 2 are black and lay green/olive eggs, the other 2 met the same fate with the snake. One was slightly lighter than black and the other was silverfish with a reddish spot on his back. So, our daughter,12, studied a bit of genetics in school and wants to hatch out some eggs from our white leghorn to see if she can get blue eggs, our black sex-linked because she is so friendly and a brownish EE hen. All are hatchery.
So, my questions, any ideas what we might get and, since we only have the one rooster, what would be the issues if we then hatched eggs from the ones we plan to hatch this spring. Obviously not going for any show stuff or anything, more concerned about health issues. Appreciate any advise, thanks!

Hi! I am quoting myself here...but one of the eggs has hatched so far! This one seems to have started a little before the rest. I hope she continues to sit on the others. If not, i will put then in the incubator, but so far so good. Anyway, here is the first glimpse. I am pretty certain that this little one has our hatchery Sicilian Buttercup as its mom. Cute! Hope there will be more to show soon!

Oops, I forgot to post the pic...

Good luck with your hatches!  Post pictures of the resulting off spring when you get them!  You might also check out the Olive Eggers thread or the EE braggers thread.

I also get frustrated by my broody hens but sometimes they are just so valuable for doing the work for you!

Well, at length, i finally have 4 chicks! A mean old snake are the one that had hatched, all other eggs were duds. Put 3 more under her and 7 in the incubator. 2 were duds, 1 quit. 4 hatched Tuesday evening. 2 from the bsl mom ( ee dad) and 2 from ee mom. Here are the results:
Two almost identical chipmunk babies from the bsl and one brown and one yellow from the ee. Any thoughts on future coloring or genders?

I would not trust any hatcheries, they do not even attempt to breed well, only to boost productivity. So I would imagine they would not have pure Ams, I do know that one (can't remember which one) bought pure Ams from one of the big breeders. However I see the hatcheries charging around $15 each chick + shipping, and you can actually buy Pure Ams from some of the breeders for around $10 plus shipping so it's cheaper and way better quality chicks. I would look up the Ameraucana Breeders I can't remember the name of the site but I am sure someone could lead you to it from here. You would come out so much better that way. Good luck getting them.

Jeff at Cackle bought LF black Ameraucana chicks from me to start his breeding flock and also to cross with his Easter Eggers to get bluer eggs. He sells LF black Ameraucana chicks for under $11 each and doubt any would have willow or yellow shanks.

Hi! Here are pics of them a little bigger. The two in the back that look alike have a BSL as a mom while the white in the front and the dark striped one by its self have an EE mom. Dad is an EE.
Any thoughts on gender? Thanks!
