Ameraucana Pullet or Cockerel? NOW with a feather comparison pic!

Maybe I am just being paranoid then

LOL They've all developed SO differently from one another that it's so hard to compare them.

Yeah, Ameraucanas have pointy looking hackle feathers so I don't go by that. I go by combs and saddle feathers and of course behavior.

Looking back at pics... maybe that blue IS a pullet

Well that REALLY makes my choice easy... I have ONE roo LMAO The Splash

Here's a pic of that blue one... maybe he is just slow getting saddle feathers?

I believe that they are both pullets. I think at 4 months old, they should have definate characteristics. They both don't seem to have saddle feathers. They both don't have a bigger comb or wattles. Neither one has crowed?

NONE of them have crowed, including the 2 definite cockerels

But, yeah... now that I look back at everyone;s pics... I think maybe I do only have 2 cockerels.. the Blue Wheaton (that I'm not keeping) and the Splash

Guess I'll just have to hope for some roos in future hatches... LOL Who'd of thunk it

I'm leaning towards pullet on the blue. On the black, it's a "Pat"...

Pick both of those birds up and part those saddle feathers and see if there are pointy ones coming in. It's the best way to know for sure.

I have had late developing roos that I have put in the "pullet" pen only to question myself a couple weeks later, "Where'd that rooster come from?"

The late developing ones have been the best birds for breeding in my opinion. They tend to have smaller tighter combs are aren't as aggressive. I haven't had any fertility problems using late blooming roos either.

Thanks Jean... I'll double check 'Pat' and ALL the rest just to be sure LOL

Well, I didn't see any suspicious feathers coming in
tongue.png
LOL Looks like I've got all pullets except the Splash and the B. Wheaton

The one time I would have liked a couple more roos... LOL Go fig! Oh well, I can't complain too much about having pullets

Thanks for the help everyone.
