Hello and thank you to all who can answer this. We have two Ameraucana roosters. The redtbof our adult chickens are brown and white egg layers. If the Aneraucana roosters breed with anybof our White Leghorns, Barred Ricks, SL Wyandottes, Red Stars or RIRs, will their offsprings’ eggs be anything different than the mama hens’ egg colors?

If the Ameraucana rooster mates with a leghorn, what color will the offspring’s eggs be?

What about an Ameraucana rooster and a Rhode Island red hen? What color egg will their offspring produce?

Can anyone recommend a beginners book on chicken genetics?

Thank you so much!

Thank you! We got our Ameraucanas from Orsheln’s. They were in the $1 “frypan special” bin so we rescued them. :)

I guess who knows what they really could be. We bought 6 Barred Rock “pullets” from them this spring and got FOUR roosters! :)

Here is a picture of one of them. They are both almost identical except the other one does not have blonde on the top of his head but just around his neck.
