Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Thanks for the info. I guess I didn't make the right decision! I'm new with the Ameraucans and have a lot to learn. At least I have BYC as a learning block.

I agree with SpeckledHen, we all have to learn somewhere! If you want to create EE's and you like that roo, by all means, put him with a mixed flock and you can have your very own EE flock. I am sure there are breeders that have a cockeral or two that they will sell you. Just hop on over to ABC and see what they have.

Wow Cynthia- what a nice looking bird otherwise. What a shame. I had a bantam blue that was the same way but he had so much silver he looked downright birchen

Ivywoods I would give him at least 9 months. If he's good otherwise I would still keep him.

Gosh, I know, right, Amy? Scout was just an awesome-looking rooster other than the base color issue! That gorgeous beetle green sheen he had couldn't be topped. His sire was a show cock out of Cree Farms.

So, I decided to go buy an SOP - if for nothing else, that I could speak with other SOP owners without being looked down upon as insignificant. I also wanted to read pages Walt pointed out as VERY important to us in a showing/judging perspective.
I could only find 2010 issues.
Why is there not a 2011 issue?

yeah i agree...
even thou he's the largest of the 4 silver roos the red leakage is a trait i do not want to carry over.
how long before i should cull the roos. they are 4 months old and all 4 roos seem to be developing at adifferents rate.

Take out the biggest and most dominant roo- or just seperate him from the others. You'll be amazed at how quickly the rest catch up. I put mine in the EE pen as soon as they are breeding age if they have a fault like leakage. The others- keep them around and see how they feather out and tail angle and all that good stuff. Best to keep 2 roos anyway.

So I'm looking now for the 2010 Sandard of Perfection and there seems to be 3 diferent looking books. There is the hardbound copy through the APA, and then there are these 2:
The American standard of perfection, illustrated. A complete ...$25.27 - Eruditor.com
The American Standard of Perfection - A Complete Desription of All ...$32.95 - Stevens Book
They appear to my uneducated eye to be the same books.
Can some one please educate me?

As noted, it is only updated every 5-10 years. Updated at 5 years and revised at 10 years....if needed, which is usually does. Actually it was only printed a few months ago. There are some new illustrations that are done by Katherine Plumer who did a fantastic job. The new illustrations can be seen at Katherine's web site. Search Katherine Plumer and it will come up. This time there are special editions available that are in a presentation box, numbered, different color cover and just a fancier version for someone who wants a special edition. They are $150.00 but the regular editions are under $60.00 shipped.

Anyone who reads those front pages will be way ahead of the game. For some reason most people only read their breeds and skip the most important part of the SOP.
