Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

pips&peeps :

Walt,

What I meant is that a breed has a variety listed and the SOP will refer to a page from another breed that has a different name for the description.

OK, I understand what you are saying Jean. I doubt that the ABA would go for that, since the Silkie folks already tried that route. I'm not sure that the APA Directors would either, but when the club feels the lavs are ready, we can explore that.

I would like to thank HappyMtn and also SONEW123 for seeing my horrendous typo in my recent eggs listings....I'm on not counting vitamins, inhalers and topicals,16 RX meds a day, one of which really gives me inability to do 3 things as once, as I used to do or even focus on one thing. The RX's keep me in a mental fog but make it possible for me to function at all and are keeping me together while docs meet and decide the priority of what to treat first and how. Isn't it a shame, I took early retirement just 3 years ago with the dream of full time farming and it looks like that dream will have to drastically change, I'm not complaining I'm just saying if you see something in a listing or a post, please pm or even call me....I would so appreciate it. So again, I'm thankful they spotted it.

I also want to say that The Garry Farm will not be doing any release of any culls from the Lavendar Ameraucana project that we are doing...and yes, we have already been asked for cull hens and roosters by several both on and off BYC...Instead the culls will go to an EE pen with a NON lav, very colorful bird , common Easter Egger and none of the hens or roosters will ever be sold! My husband and I are firmly committed on this. I have become very wise lately of those who would swoop in to take credit of our hard work. Our farm pictures have been used by others multiple times - even watermarked ones. I've had folks who bought eggs from us take pics from our website and even from BYC pages and claim them as their birds! But I digress to say that we've become painfully aware to the ways of some folks in this world. Makes me sad but it's a new reality to our Farm.

We have benefitted from many of you who were here much earlier than we, your work on this I'm ever grateful for.....I've been trying for years to get our grouping together as you all can painfully see when you look at prior listings for "Sharkey" our one and only Lavendar rooster.

I look forward to learning more and more as I have by coming here a lot. Most of all, please know That The Garry Farm is working on this in a serious way. We may not stop in and say much but we're reading and learning. My husband simply types 10 words in 10 minutes and that's top speed and now that I'm prone to so many typing errors that I simply cannot see when I reread them, it's most difficulty to type. So if FarmFreshEggs drops by to ask a question, please be kind to him....He's my husband. Thanks and have a blessed day. Nancy

LaMike, our birds from you are still growing up but looking very very good. Jean, I received a beautiful hen from Lisa up in North GA, from your line and she is sooo beautiful. And right on to all who say that a large debt is owed to those who worked so much on this.... LaMike, I'm certain your flock is far better than ours but you know I'll always be glad to get you some eggs..... By the way, there is a New Years Day hatch, and our farm is donating 12 free eggs and free shipping as a price......I'm not one of the Judges but 12/11 is the deadline for that hatchalong. I probably cannot safely get 12 eggs together from our LA flock, but expect at least 6 to say 8 or 9..... Just a thought.

Hi to all, I am fairly new to byc, but getting around now. I had a terrible thing happen today, a dog killed one of my wheaton pullets.

I was just sick. I got the ameraucana's from my sister. She only gave me trio. They have just started to lay. I was so hoping to raise some chicks from them. Now it is going to be so much harder with one pullet to work with. She also gave me a lavender cockerel, but alas no pullets, said she would give me some black pullets, but now she does not have any, so I am going to have to wait till next summer. Oh well, that is how it goes. Been enjoying reading, so much to learn!

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I feel your pain. We had the same thing happen this week with my daughter's bantam cochin trio 4H project. The pullet killed was the very first chick she/we ever hatched, and her special favorite.

It just broke my little girl's heart. I have her last 4 eggs in the incubator now, we are hoping and praying to hatch out a couple of her babies. We have also been left with just a pair for breeding now. I hope you can find some pullets to help you get your project going again.

I would like all of your opinions on this chick, what breed and if it's a girl. She/he is 10 wks old and was supposed to have come from a straight run of chicks that came from an Ameraucana breeder in Indiana. I only paid $8 and wanted blue eggs. She/he was sold as a Blue/wheaten.

The blue legs really show up in this pic of our EE, Fiona

Thanks
