Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

OK, thats one and one, blue or splash? Anybody else care to tell me what color this pullet is (she's 5-1/2 months old). I thought the splashes always had random darker feathers, like the splash pic from Christie.

From this picture...she looks like a light splash to me. Doesn't she have dark spots on her? Especialy on the left side of chest ans tail? That is what I see on my screen. Maybe a bad picture?

Yes, I am agreeing with the splash now. She does have a few black spots on her, very few, but enough.

That is a splash- she just has more blue in her base color.

Congrats Jean! Fingers crossed for lots of chocolates!

I have splash questions. Can they also be totally white at 3 months old? Like this one?

I asked this a couple times but I think my posts got wizzed over in the Lavender conversation.

Well there go some more Ebay eggs that have not panned out. Wonder what I should do with those younger pullets, I have no good roo to breed to them now. I've been getting pretty bummed out, first it was poor quality blue copper Marans, then "show quality" Rhode Island Reds that turned out not to be, now these. All from eggs purchased on Ebay. Never again.

Your best bet with eggs is to contact somebody through one of the breed clubs. Ask to see pictures of their birds and what bloodlines they came from.

Your black looks ok- check the bottoms of her feet to make sre they are white and not yellow. And i see some pretty Orloffs in the background

I looked at the black's feet (undersides), they are neither, they look partly gray and partly pinkish. It is raining and muddy and gray out there right now, but that's what is looked like to me. What does that mean?

Oh I think I know this one... pinkish is considered white. That was hard for me to figure out at first. None of my ameraucanas had white feet or skin... only pink. lol. Guess the "white" skin lets some pink glow through from the birds veins or something. Ok I am totally making that part up but it was how I figured it out.

So is that a DQ also? I'm not having very good luck getting "show quality" birds out of any of the many dozens

of eggs I purchased. The blue laced red wyandottes are nice, but they are not in the SOP; the Delawares and Barred Rocks I'm happy with because I knew they were hatchery stock, so no big expectations there

No I don't think so. Pink is what the bottom of the feet can look like if the chicken has white skin.

So if they were yellow it would be a DQ?

Yes, With a judge who checks, because they would not be the correct breed.

Blue pullet or cockerel? About 4.5 to 5 months old at this point. I'm not sure because the others don't have as large of a comb. There are some areas that have some brown in it. Just trying to learn this breed, so any comments welcomed.
