Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

These are NOT my photos and I'm sorry, I don't know who to give credit for these, so if you own them claim them so we can give proper credit, but I've always liked these photos, too. I keep them for reference because with these lavs sometimes I forget what blue is.

So... Who's selling hatching eggs this spring (CrystalCreek, Happy Mt, Jean...)? Hahaha!

No, no, no! We ended with 7 chicks. Out of those 7, 5 are Lavs and 2 are black(splits). :-) We are happy with the ratio of lavs and are excited to see them develope.

Thank you for the eggs.

Ok good; you're welcome! Get some blacks! Look at them at day 12 and tell me if you have any with about 1inch of tail feather growth. If you do, mark it!!!

What's one more project? I have the Mille Fleur bantam Cochins, I am trying to improve on the BW/W Ameraucanas (egg production, mainly), I have Lav Orps and sure... May as well add Lav Ameraucanas. Oh, and the other special project I am not mentioning until I get the birds... I decided back in August I am clearing out my hatchery birds (bought for egg production) this spring and specializing in Orps, Cochins and Ameraucanas (with a side of Australorps and EEs). I went from egg eater to chicken breeder. Darn BYC. Bad influences, the lot of you!

I remember you saying that. I will wait to see the sexes and then decide what blacks to acquire.

Can you send me reference of breeders with nice blacks?

Beautiful birds! I do love the barred bird which I guess is a rooster? Is it the only barred one you have right now? Are you finding the hens lay a nice blue eggs? This is probably a dumb question but why can you not get slate colored legs on a barred colored chicken? Do you or would you sell hatching eggs?

I would say you have done a nice job on your yard candy. I like the one you are showing in the picture!

Yep- the roo is the barred one, and he's split for lavender. Egg color is good- but I won't know what the cuckoo chicks are laying for some time. I expect it to be about the same as these:

The blue-er ones are from the lavenders, the one black split is laying the big green ones. I'm just happy to be getting bigger eggs this generation

Very nice!

You have done a good job. I like the nice blues that the lavenders are producing.
