Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Thanks! I got lucky with the egg color, still working on the feather quality. I can't wait to see if the little bit of marans blood makes a difference in these guys.
I have only worked with lavender in soft-feathered birds and the texture is all wrong. That's why I like Crystalcreeks roo so much- that's exactly where I hope to be soon.

If you're not to far and you want some birds....all you need is a barred roo to start a whole flock.

Did you ever weigh Jumbo? A fish scale and a recycle grocery bag (the canvas ones you reuse for each trip) work great if you're trying to figure out how to weigh him.

I did not

I am new to chickens. My husband bought 2 hens that are supposed to be Americaunas. I was wondering if they lay just blue eggs. After researching I figured they were probably EE's. I got my first blue egg !!!. Does that mean they are Americaunas? Or can EE's lay blue eggs.? Not the best picture !

They are EE... I have both and love them equally. I have several that lay pretty blue and some lay slight green eggs. I love the variety of egg colors! there is a thread for ee braggers

I hope that worked. If not do a search for Easter Egger Bragger thread

The Ameraucana Breed is still early in the making . Lots of folks are raising them in different colors but what is called SOP stand of perfection, is often difficult to attain and most of the culls or birds that will not be used in the Ameraucana breeding program of that breeder end up being put into the pens with EEs which are not a breed but of mix of mutts that most of us love anyway because they are colorful. All this would become clearer to those who read a lot of BYC

I have three young black Ameraucanas that are about 3 months old. Two of them I'm pretty sure of their gender but this one is between the two. Any ideas?
