Splash Ameraucana chick 16 Days old....cockerel, probably.

Wheaten or blue Wheaten chick (?) 16 days old...

Is there a visible difference in the Wheaten/Blue Wheaten chicks? At what age can you start telling them apart?

This is a new color variety for me, before I've only had BBS ones, so hopefully, someone will answer your question. I think this is probably a blue wheaten cockerel, but it's early yet I guess.

It is a Wheaten Cockerel.

There's a lot of bluish tinge in the feathers that the camera doesn't capture. Here's a different pic of him.

BLUE EGGS

I got my BBS stock from folks who seemed quite reputable-garnered from info on the ABC forum-I purchased hatching eggs from two farms.
The eggs I received were blue, blue-green, and minty green.....no olives.
Yet at least one of my hens is laying an egg I would consider more olivey than any shade of blue.
Does my stock contain a mutt somewhere, or do they really vary that much naturally?

I really love that! They go through amazing changes on through till adulthood. It makes them so extra-interesting!
