Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Hello all, I've been lurking on this thread for a week or so and I think I love Ameraucanas! I've never had chickens before, but I'm planning to get some soon. How do I go about finding some actual Ameraucanas? I see them listed in Craigslist, but after reading this thread I just don't believe that they are the real deal. I want to raise five chicks, and I'm not sure I'm up to hatching eggs on my first chicken experiment.

You might ask Pips and Peeps (Jean) as I believe she lives in your area and if she doesn't have birds she would know who does. You could also ask Tailfeathers (Royce) as he has Ameraucanas as well. Both are club members and experienced breeders.

Just my luck! So much for adding new blood!

Going to try again...

Question on color for showing. Wondering if the Lavenders are a color accepted in shows? Blues are right? Lavenders??

Lavenders are not YET. You can still show them though.
As long as you get stock form a responsible BREEDER (and not a chicken mill) you'll be off to a good start. The more people breeding and IMPROVING good birds, the sooner they will be accepted- we hope. Beware- there are opportunists claiming "great bloodlines" when there really is not such thing at this time.

I asked my name to be taken off the breeders list because I am not selling to the public this year. I may have some auctions now and then, but pretty much done taking orders for chicks and eggs.

I am still getting lots of e-mails and phone calls though.....

I got those eggs from Debbie Whaley. They look just like my Ribbeck girl's eggs, but they are still on strike. Time to break out the cayenne pepper!
