Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

There is only one place to go to: The breed club of the particular breed you are interested in to learn what you should expect in your birds. You will want to visit the Ameraucana Breeders Club forum and they have a breeders list where you can find someone near you. Good luck, don't forget to join the club after you are established as a breeder.

You might ask Pips and Peeps (Jean) as I believe she lives in your area and if she doesn't have birds she would know who does. You could also ask Tailfeathers (Royce) as he has Ameraucanas as well. Both are club members and experienced breeders.

There is a directory on the ameraucana breeders club site- just updated to be listed by state:

Jean- do you know you aren't on there?

Thank you all so much. I just emailed Tailfeathers, so now I'm just hoping I can actually get some chicks!

Can you teach us how to tell which are roos? Am I seeing a spot on the head of them?Duh, now I see the hen, she is a blonde.......boys have darker color on them. Hadn't seen them feathering in, just the downy photos before....

There's an auction on for another 36 minutes claiming Pips and Peeps line of Lavenders and blue and black??

I did see in the photo the gold bleeding through on the wings.

And the club thread on lavender said should breed blacks with silver genes not gold genes to those particular lavenders to help correct the color bleed through?

I ask here because even though I joined the clubsite Monday, I'm not up as registered on the forum yet.

Haven't learned enough yet in a week of researching Ameraucanas to jump into lavender birds.....

Once someone takes another breeders birds and chooses what to keep and which birds to breed, it is no longer the former persons line. It is in fact their line.

Ok this is my little blue roo... he is not perfect, but better than the older roo I was going to work with. I think he came from cpartist's flock. My older roo has lots of white tail fluff and no beard or muffs anymore.

I totally agree with this. I may have originally got my birds from so and so, but when I started breeding them and make the descions, I take credit for the bad and the good. Now that doesn't mean you don't give credit where credit is due, like all the breeders who spent a ton of effort establishing certian varieties, but when it comes down to specific birds that you are looking to purchase, one needs to take an objective look at them! Don't be blinded by the original birds being from such and such a line. Scrutinze the birds you are about to buy, by what you see!

x2 to both of you. People look for the quality of the parent birds but they are yours.

Right- I may have a beautiful Pip's hen's egg, but what is INSIDE that egg is all my responsibility.

I'm glad to see a thread where people can discuss faults and good breeding practices without getting all offended.

That's because we have to deal with the ee issue and once you've been around that block a time or two, you get pretty thick skin.

This fellow is 19 weeks old. I'd love feedback about his comb. I have other pictures I can share as well.

LL

He's just bit high in the center, but he's not done growing yet. That comb won't finish until around 14 months.

I am more concerned about the feathers sticking up on his head. He almost looks like he is trying to grow a crest..... or, he could just have messy bed head. I look like the wild girl from Borneo when I get up.
