So this is Rusty the Rooster. His daughters (mothers were RIR) lay green eggs. The fellow I got him from said he was Ameraucana. I got him for free so not concerned, just curious.

He is a really pretty Easter Egger .... I would breed him with my EE pullets. He will pass the egg coloring to offspring.

I had 6 EE and 6 RIR the chicks that hatched were half from RIR half from the EE. The RIR daughter are the only ones survived the neighbors dogs. I have 22 EEers in the brooder and an understanding with the neighbors. He has been a great rooster (he is three this year).

Here  are some recessive white bantams fresh out of the incubator.There is always some variation in how smokey they are and to a lesser extent in leg color.If the leg color is fine on the parents the chicks should color up also.Genetics is facinating stuff.Each bloodline can have its own normal.


 

It's been a while since I posted about my White Amerucana bantams. All of them turned out completely white. Will they continue to produce white or is their a possibility that they will throw other colors? I'm not completely convinced yet whether I want to continue with them or not. The boy doesn't like to be confined and is noisey and has no manners. Do I need to hatch more? As with father over daughter? Just trying to get breeding pens together and not sure if it is worth it if they will throw different colors. Thanks

WOOOT! 83% success rate! I would be pleased! I need more wheatens! i only had 2 wheatens and one has too much black, so i wont breed her. and the other one (who who extremely gorgeous) died this week. so I'm just guna breed my bw cockerel with my bw pullet (when they get old enough) therefore ill be satisfied with any of the offspring

Ive had an Ameraucana roo, has three generations of pure whites, from a well known breeder...when crossed with my black and blue girls, he produced nothing but blues and blacks. Never whites. All of them are goreous, very correct in the true Ameraucana traits. When his grandkids came out, they were all blues. No white throwbacks. All of them had slate legs except for the roo, which he has white/pink legs. Father over daughter should not be a problem.

I'm still waiting for my egg color chart to come in. I'm really trying to understand Ameraucana egg color. I've gotten eggs from several different people and I still always see a green tint to the eggs. Maybe it's just how my brain perceives it, and so maybe I'll never see a true blue egg.

Also, with my BBS eggs, when the hens first started laying the eggs looked a chalky green to me, but as the weeks have passed, I see a change in their color. It's almost as though the shells are greenish, but the blue pigment didn't come in till after some time. Do you think this to be generally true or is it it just my eggs?

When I collect eggs these days, I'm somewhat surprised when I see the change in egg color. I imagine they will eventually return to their base color. I think I had an unrealistic idea about the color of ameraucana eggs because of all the pretty pictures that are posted in some auctions. I know now that those pictures were taken when the eggs were at their peak and only of the very best ones, so not a true representation of the eggs being sold.
