Hi! I'm new to the board, been lurking a while & reading, but a recent post reminded me of a question I have. Since Blue is a recognized color, and Splash is the result of breeding Blue to Blue, I don't understand why Splash has yet to be recognized. I understand that Lavender is a new color still being developed, but obviously Splash has been around for as long as Blue has. I read somewhere that for a variety to be recognized there had to be a certain number of breeders breeding & showing it for a certain number of years - was there just more interest in Blue than Splash and more people promoting it, so it was recognized sooner? Or is there something about Splash that is considered undesirable?

Mahonri could be right, but I really don't know why. Blue color varies in shades, too. I do know from experience that some splashes have white legs and some have black/slate legs because I've hatched out both. Guess they could say either white or slate are acceptable, though. How you come up with a standard for the "accent feathers" in a splash, I'm not sure. Some have very few like my Snow and some have quite a lot, to the point of looking almost mottled to me.

I got a ameraucana silver rooster. I think he is very nice and sweet and still very young but not to young to do his job. Mr. Green Jeans
