I can't tell what color they are from the pics... you don't have a splash, I can tell that. But the pics are making them look about the same except the blue one in the middle. They should NOT have feathered legs.I just hatched my first chicks this past weekend from shipped eggs. They were advertised as BBS? These are my first Ameraucanas and so i'm not sure what to expect. What can you tell me about the babies? Can you say for sure what color they'll be based on their chick fuzz?
Also one of the chicks was born with feathered shanks...is this unusual?
I am guessing I have 2 males & 2 females based on coloring, wing tip feathers and behavior.
Here's the feathered shank...girl? Blue?
Here is the whole crew...black cockerel on the left, blue? or blue splash? cockerel in the center, 2 blue pullets on right- the feathered shank bird is lying down.
Here is the darkest one...I think he is a he because of the eyebrows/light color on the face & even wing tip feathers. Does he look like he will be black?
TIA for any info!
.
I'd love to know this too. I have three Ameraucanas [6-8 wks old]. Two blue and one splash. The lighter blue is getting her muff and beard feathers and is gorgeous. The other two are younger and still have fuzz on their cheeks [gorgeous tho too!]. The splash's muff fuzz sticks out quite a bit but the other darker blue's muff fuzz doesn't really stick out much [yet?].
Is there anyway to tell the amount of beards and muffs in young chicks?
Oh.. just found one more tidbit!
On the scale of points, eyes are worth a total of 4 points out of 100. They can get up to 2 points for shape and 2 points for color.
I am loving my new book!![]()

I my experience 12 weeks you will get a real good idea what's going on with the beard muffs. The hens usually get theirs first. They look like vultures for quite a long time. That is my least favorite faze. So no, you have to wait. It is very hard to do, I know from experience!!!!!
