Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Just wondering, what color are the legs suppose to be on these beauitful birds? I have 3 that I hatched from eggs that I bought off of Ebay, not a good experience, but I am unsure of leg color. Actally I'm pretty sure they are EE's instead.

I was wondering if the black chick that I have is ok with it's legs..they are black until you get to the toes then they have white ends. Maybe it changes as they get older?

I don't see leg colors in the standard.

AMERAUCANA THREAD!!! lol
Hi all! Just discovered this thread. Excited to meet new Ameraucana peeps!

Since I am here, I might as well take advantage of the wealth of knowledge that is all around me! ;)

Confession...I am addicted to Wheaten and Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas. I hatched 4 of the most gorgeous babies from Happy Mountain and Faykoko this spring...and of course 3 were roos.

The good thing is my boys are all different! I ended up with a Wheaten (Kacey), a Blue Wheaten (Greyson) and a Splash Wheaten (Mufasa). I have one beautiful little Blue Wheaten girl (Kool-Aid...she helped herself to a glass of Tropical Punch Kool-Aide when she was about 6 weeks old and now here beard is pink!

) I am so sad to say that I am probably going to rehome the Splash Wheaten baby.

Anyway...my genetics question is...What can I expect if I breed my Wheaten or Blue Wheaten to my blue, black, splash and lavender hens? All of my girls are from Happy Mountain or Paul Blehm lines. I read somewhere that the colors might leak but I have NO IDEA what that means...especially with a Wheaten! LOL!

Thanks for the info!!!

APA Standar for LF is "very dark slate to black" ABA for bantam is "very dark slate"

Hi everyone, I tend to lurk and read more than anything on here. Lots of information!
I have a question....these 2 roosters. What kind of combs are these? I tried to get a good picture of their heads. Hope they are good enough. The top one did have a small muff and beard, but not much and hens keep picking at it. I bought these as chicks from a breeder. Are either one of them keepers for breeding purposes? Or do they need to go?

The blue boy does look like he has a very poor pea comb, but yeah, the splash boy should not be used at all. Since they came from the same place, it might be best to just start over with boys....

Leakage is when a black, blue or lavender rooster has silver or red in the hackle [neck] area.Sometimes in the saddle in severe cases. It is best to stay in the same color families unless you have a project planned to improve something.Wheaten,Blue wheaten, splash wheaten are a family.Blue ,black, and splash as a family line. With lavender black is the best to use for improvement.Anything else is best left to more experienced breeders as it can be a mess to sort out.
