Since I am here, I might as well take advantage of the wealth of knowledge that is all around me!
Confession...I am addicted to Wheaten and Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas. I hatched 4 of the most gorgeous babies from Happy Mountain and Faykoko this spring...and of course 3 were roos. The good thing is my boys are all different! I ended up with a Wheaten (Kacey), a Blue Wheaten (Greyson) and a Splash Wheaten (Mufasa). I have one beautiful little Blue Wheaten girl (Kool-Aid...she helped herself to a glass of Tropical Punch Kool-Aide when she was about 6 weeks old and now here beard is pink!
) I am so sad to say that I am probably going to rehome the Splash Wheaten baby.![]()
Anyway...my genetics question is...What can I expect if I breed my Wheaten or Blue Wheaten to my blue, black, splash and lavender hens? All of my girls are from Happy Mountain or Paul Blehm lines. I read somewhere that the colors might leak but I have NO IDEA what that means...especially with a Wheaten! LOL!
Thanks for the info!!!
Hope all goes well Jerry. I will be posting pics of the silver project birds from you soon (I'll send some to you through email.)Always willing to share what I know.Surgery tomorrow so I will be absent for awhile.
Hello from Alaska!! I have recently purchased 15 purebred Ameraucanas in Blue, Black and Splash and although know nothing about showing them, would love to someday! I have read most of the posts on this thread and have been lurking BYC for years and decided to finally say hello! I really love the pics of your beautiful birds! Keeping birds in Alaska is not an easy task! I also used to breed zebra finches (for 15 years) and wow, how different it is with breeding chickens for color! I can't wait to get to know all of you!
All breeds of poultry.
Hello all
Just seeing some thoughts on whether or not you expert Ameraucana owners think this is actually and Ameraucana or if it's really an EE. I have an EE myself (came from farm store hatching stock), but I bought this recent one from a lady so I suppose it IS possible she really breeds them. Not too sure though, hence why I have come to you lovely people for assistance!
She (which is still up for determination btw) is about 2 months old give or take ... any guess on gender would be helpful too. Her legs are a light blue (that called slate?) in the proper light and she was pretty dirty when I got her so she's all white ... just dirty.
Thanks for any help!
And my apologies in advance for cluttering up the thread if she (hopefully not he) is in fact an EE!
Sorry, but s/he's an EE. His/her legs are green and not the slate blue they should be. Going by the comb, I am guessing it's a he, but the legs make me thing pullet. Hackles look pointy, but it's hard to tell on white. I am no expert, for sure.

No expert here either!! But I am wondering about the leg color on light birds. I have a purebred splash AM whose legs are not slate blue but a turquoise. They are not a green at all, but not slate colored like her sisters who are blue. [BTW, I know mine is a full AM, not an EE]
