Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

There are older books you can down load. The Marans will not be in a published bood for 9 more years..... it is not that expensive $59 with shipping so I just took the plunge. I have been using the older book from online.... I am a BOOK person. Just not the same looking on line.

Please share the link for that online bit. I love books but since DH just ordered me a Hovabator the book waits till Christmas.

I was just thinking that Black Ams are rather underrated. They are utilitarian instead of glamorous. I rather like my blacks. My Splash girls are SO pretty and they are just like the pretty girls in high school or college: mean.

Ok quick question. I'm not 100% positive if this is a wheaten Roo or some kind of strange mix up. It was hatched from Wheaten/Blue Wheaten eggs in December. I hatched three out. One is a Blue Wheaten Roo and one a Blue Wheaten hen and then this one pictured below. The BW roo is full size and looks the same size as my other BW roo that is a year old. Is IT is really a Wheaten Roo? What are your thoughts??

Chickens...paying for themselves?? Now THAT is funny!

I am afraid I am in so deep there is no hope. I think I will clear the books and start at zero from now on. lol!!!
My chickens have not cost that much. I used FREE material to make coops and runs and feeders and waterers. They have been paying for their feed since the fall and any hatching eggs I want and even new birds. All comes from the chickens now. Not me

I could not keep them if they didn't produce income enough to cover their expenses.

Now the trouble you had hatching and shipping.... you need to clear the books

Lol just about! Actually at one time I figured each bird cost about 100.00 after I averaged it all out. I have about 110 birds right now..... Ack I hate when I come up with numbers! I will pretend I didn't just type that. Hahaha!
If I had more time I probably could make enough $$ to pay for feed but I am too dang busy with my salon and helping my husband with his business.
For now chickens are a hobby.
Hobby= a place to pour money. Ha!

It is cheaper than some hobbies!

I'd agree on that - especially with a book I refer to a lot!
