Got 2 new eggs from 2 wheaten ameraucana girls. I was not expecting them to lay at 21 weeks and did not even have a nest box for them. Imagine my surprise when I saw the eggs laying in a corner of the grow-out coop. I can't match the color on the ABC chart. They sure are pretty.

Congrats over here too,,,,really nice looking eggs. With those other pullets in your grow out you should really have some great stock for blue egg layers

I have spent the better part of 2 hours reading this thread, and haven't seen one single bantam yet.

I recently acquired a young breeding group of BBS Ameraucana Bantams. 3 Cockerels and 4 hens. One of the cockerels is gorgeous - He is blue. The second in line has a crooked toe, and the last male is not worth breeding at all, but I have him anyway.

I will be posting pictures later on. It was late when I got them home last night, so I need to take some photos today. I am really excited about breeding these guys. The pullets have already been in shows, but unfortunately there is no competition for them. Next year the national is coming to our province, so I am really hoping that someone else brings some Ameraucana bantams! I like healthy competition!

WOW where did you get those girls from? I have never seen eggs that dark blue before.

I bought BWA from several different BYCers this spring. These ones came from madelynbelle and hers were the bluest with the least amount of green tint. To my eye, all the others had some green in them, but that may just be how I perceive them. My DH says they were all blue. Hers though were the "brightest" blue.

Larkrise you seem to be building up some very nice stock.

Madelynbelle is in the same state as me. I just might have get some eggs from her this next year. I love my blue wheaten roo I have growing up. I still am trying to make my decision about what breeds to go with. I still like blue and black birds also. I think your dark blue rooster you have is very handsome.

How is the personality of your wheatens from Madelynbelle? The wheatens I have from another source are very friendly. Definitely something I want.

Of course if I do go with the Ameraucanas I will have to get some from Pipsandpeeps. She is in my state too. I am so lucky.

What is the most sought out color?

I'm looking into becoming a breeder and will be buying show quality stock(hopefully). I'm looking right now to buy from the Ameraucana breeders club and hopefully becoming a member myself in the next year or so. I'm going to do my research first before I go ahead sell. I do have 12 eggs I got here locally from Paul Smith's(in Texas) stock in my incubator. I'm not sure how many will hatch though. I bought another 6 off of eBay, 5 are looking really good in development. Both sets of eggs are a nice blue. I won't be breeding any of these unless the hens I keep are show quality. I'm praying I can successfully hatch these eggs.

When I start selling, I will have all my stock NPIP tested. There's a place not too far from where I live that does the testing.

I believe Madelynbelle got her birds from me last fall.
