I have been thinking of adding another variety. I feel like Blue Wheaten has quite a few breeders working with that variety. I am unsure which way to go. I like white....................................My lacing project is not going so well. The Blue Andalusians that I hatched out: the pullets are really small, and the cockerels have RED leakage. That fact automatically means I am culling the hens to. I will not grow them out, it doesn't matter how big they get, I don't want the red leakage going into my project. I am going to go the route Jean is going. I know she is a smart lady, I going to try Orpingtons. That helped the buffs, and helped to start the Lavs and Choc., so that is what I am going to try. In fact I am in love with Jeans X Blue rooster!!!!!!!!!! I drool over him when I think of the pic. I will have to go find it so I can look at it again.

I've actually decided to go with silver laced dottes for the lacing on the blue. I want to make silver laced ameraucanas and I can't afford the silver laced orps. So adding blue in the mix just makes both projects "doable" at the same time.

You can certainly set up and have an egg judging at Ohio. Is it a meet?

I would see if you can get the egg judging sheets from Michael and set it up. Maybe have him put a note in the upcoming bulletin.

Leave it with me and I'll organize something for next year. Ameraucanas are becoming VERY popular in Canada but I haven't paid enough attention to how the Ameraucana egg shows work so I was hoping I might have a chance to become more educated in Ohio this year since I won't make it to Sedalia. If need be, I'll communicate with you and Michael and whomever else you might recommend and we'll get something sorted out for Canada next year.

Which variety you want will depend on all you want to do. Most show breeders will tell you to go with the solid birds like white, black, or buff. If you would like a challenge, you could breed some of the lesser known varieties like the silver or brown red. If you want the most sociable birds, the whites, buffs, wheatens and blue wheatens are the route to go. It is really up to you knowing what and where and why you want the birds. Each variety has it's own personality and issues.

Thank you very much. This is extremely helpful. I love social chickens! The more social the better. I love it when they sit on my lap, especially several at a time. All my hens are lap chickens. I spend a lot of time with my flock and they all come running to me if they hear or see me.

That is a good idea too. I have a breeder not far from me that has really nice B/B/S dottes. Maybe I can throw that into the mix.

(lets hope not) When you breed them together the yellow legs will pop up.... I may make an EE project out of this, but not an AM project... I don't have the patience .... but EE are easy... no standards. I will be first in line to get some Laced Ams... when they are reasonably priced

Yep first generation will have white/slate legs but will be carrying recessive yellow skin. So the next generation is the one to hatch many birds and and keep all with slate legs and white skin and do test breedings back to the dottes to see if they are carrying recessive yellow skin.

Heather I would only use the silver laced to do this project. If you breed them to a blue Ameraucana you will eventually have a blue bird with distinct black lacing on each feather like the standard calls for.

While we are on this subject.... would a BLRW work or would the red muddy the water too much? I need to pull out my SOP is it black lacing or just lacing? Not engrained in my brain yet. Just thinking out loud here... I have a splash BLRW with a straignt comb pullet.... could cross her with my Black AM roo and get 100% blue something?????
