Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I would call her a Blue Silver. There are acouple breeders that are working on this variety, me included.

Do you know where she got it from?
Blue silver.I am also working on this color.Mike Gilbert had some of these also.He sold all of his.It is a project color and is as valid on this thread as lavender, chocolate, splash and splash wheaten.None of those are in the standard yet.

My understanding of the genes and a colour pattern as complex as that - there is absolutely no way of knowing what genes are at play without knowing the parents and the off-spring. Guesses might start to become more educated and accurate with that information.

Since that bird is an Easter Egger and not an Ameraucana and that colour pattern is clearly not Ameraucana, perhaps you would get more helpful responses if you asked the question on a thread not dedicated to Ameraucanas?

Please stop being the EE police. If this person wants to do a project, he is allowed to talk about it.

I can't help but laugh a little

Me too! I am glad somebody is so dedicated, and serious about the breed. They just need to relax a little. I wasn't trying to be mean. I just get anxiety when I read this thread lately. I supposed to be fun, educational, but I feel like we are losing potential breeders. I don't mind a good debate. The EE, AM debate, I am done with. The clubs need to figure it out. If there is a newbie, who is clueless, that is different. They need some guidance. A lot of people started out being buffaloed. Most of our first "Ameraucanas" were EE. That guy was asking a serious question!!!! He doesn't need to be ignored. If he want to work on type etc............. This IS the right thread. IMO

I agree that there is no telling what is in the background of an ee. The bird does not look like a blue silver to me. It has an awful lot of red leakage all over the body if you enlarge the picture.

I personally would not do a project with a bird that I do not know what genes it is carrying, but that is just me.

Heatherscooby77, the person who posted this photo did not say they were the owner of the bird and just wants to know what color it is.

Kibi, this is the "Ameraucana" thread, that is why someone pointed out that the bird is an ee. There are genetics threads that general questions can be posted on about color questions.

Here is a blue silver project pullet.F2 generation.I used blue wheaten to introduce the blue gene.Mike Gilbert used blue in his project.I do not usually post project pictures on here.I did not go outside the breed to produce these. You can see the wheaten hen pattern influence on her.

We all have to start somewhere, and there is nothing wrong with that. Saying: "That there is an EE..." sounds very off-putting instead of: "I'm sorry, but that looks to be a very pretty Easter Egger." Some people who are just starting don't even know what EE stands for. I understand how it could be irritating to see a breed you love being confused with a true rare breed, but that is not the posters fault.

I have yet to see a hatchery bird that was anywhere close to type. Some of the EEs I've seen from hatcheries are closer to the breed then the barred rocks I've seen. Don't get me started on the hatchery silkies.

Anyway.. Not trying to start anything here. Just hoping there will be a little more courtesy to the EE owners. :/ If not, I will not come back to this thread.

I agree with this post^

I have both Ameraucana and EE and my EE are hatchery stock from last easter i love those girls just the same i plan to keep them and use them to make some Olive eggers with my BCM for fun and different colored eggs. I will tell you that i would have never found out about Ameraucana's if it had not been for the EEs . I just found it fascinating that they were a cross bred bird and then i saw the blue eggs and just had to have some of those and i have slowly been learning information on the Ameraucana breed and want to breed them true which is why i ordered some chicks from Paul Smith so i could breed them for my kids to show etc... EE are not a bad thing they bring attention to the Ameracuana for those that are looking for that colorful egg basket they are a must have.

Aoxa

here is a picture of one of my EE as far as type she has alot of the look of ameraucana minus the color of course has the beard and muffs as well she is still a pullet and growing.
