Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Still looks like size is an issue in those birds; combs are also something that needs work in the silver line.

If you still want to work on them, they look like they would be what you need to get.

I could nit pick them apart, but they are probably what you are likely to find on the market anywhere now.

The roo looks good. Maybe he is a little older from the look of his comb? I wonder about the color on the hens though.

Speaking of silvers- I have had quite a few lav silvers popping up in my projects. I would almost like to get my hands on some true silver duckwings and see if using these big, broody, super friendly birds would get me anywhere.

Some of you may remember when I posted pics of a young cockerel, trying to figure out what the heck he was. He looks like a cross between a buff Am. and a blue wheaten Am. I'm posting this newer picture of him, so you can see what he looks like now.

Here is one of the pics I posted before:

And here he is now:

Sorry for the shadows - he was acting camera shy this afternoon.

Thanks much, Jean & Happy, on your feedback on these Silvers. These were the 2008 stock from the breeder. I've got my fingers crossed that she's continued working on them these past 4 years and perhaps they are a bit nicer now. I'll post pics of her current stock for feedback, should I decide to move forward with them.

Blue tailed buff! He's lovely, but definitely something in between.
I have a marans with very similar coloring and I have to tell you- I have gotten some gorgeous birds using him over all colors of marans and wheaten ameraucanas. I wouldn't hesitate to use him for an olive egger project.

Its good to that you are doing your homework. Silvers are under appreciated. Would be nice to see more of them out there.

Jean (and Happy,) I bet Wynette wouldn't mind a bit if you nit picked them apart! She and I are DEEP into nit picking our Marans TOO DEATH. Can't move forward intelligently without information from experienced folks!!! Would love to hear a deeply critical opinion.

Yup, yup! But - let's wait until I can get some current pics - again, these are 2008 models; maybe she's worked them a bit. Jean, they ARE definitely bigger than those 2 Silvers I had 5 years ago. I'm unsure if you remember them, you'd contacted me about buying them. They were pretty, but VERY small, these are much larger to be sure.

And Happy, yuppers - I agree with you. I also have silver penciled rocks, and I love the silver pattern & color!
