Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Prob a dumb question but if I breed a blue roo over a lavender hen what will the offspring be?
While it is not reccomended I have done it and so have a few others.First generation you will get blacks and blues. All will be split for lav.The problem comes if you breed the blue/lav splits. You will not know which birds are splits in the second generation. If it is all you have to work with and are trying for lav then save only the black/lav splits to breed from.

Anyone available to comment on my cockerels? I'm not sure if this is the best place to post them, or if I should start a new thread. They are 5 months old now. The black is just starting to crow.

Out of 6 chicks - 5 were cockerels. I was able to cull 2 of them due to crooked combs but these 3 are what I have left. I hope I have at least one that's decent!

Black

Blue #1

Blue #2. I'm not sure if his wings are droopy, or if he was just being lazy. I think I'd have noticed if they were so droopy - but I will peek at him again tomorrow.

And my 2 blue wheaten boys. They are a bit younger, but I'm not sure of their exact age. I know not much is visible from the pics.

All the blues and blacks you have there have droopy wings. The all seem to have alot of underfluff sticking out around the saddle. This is an indicator that the feather width is narrow and is not something you want to pass on.

On your blue wheatens, they both have something the other doesn't. The one in the back has a darker beard and muff, but has more ticking/striping in the hackles than the one in front. Do you have an approximate age?

Hmm could their fluffyness be caused by the recent rain? It did rain today and they don't mind getting wet. I will try to get some pictures once we haven't had rain for a few days. Maybe they will look better.
The blue wheatens are the same age - the one in the back had a light beard until very recently, the other one is just starting to get some blue in his beard so I'm thinking he's just behind the first.
As for age...if I had to guess, I'd say they hatched in early June, so they're probably around 5 months old. The older guys (blue and black) were hatched mid May, so they are about 5.5 months old.

I found a recent photo of my single pullet. I'm praying she's decent!!!

I also have two younger blues, but I am not sure of their sexes. They look pullet-ish, but seem to have some tiny spur nubs coming in, so I am worried :(

Jean what are the preferences here on the blue wheatons? meaning muff/beard color and more or less ticking/sriping?

as you know I'm new at this

thanks
