Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

thank you both, i'm always learning something new and this helps me alot, i already have a hen that i hatched out this summer, was suppose to be a lco egg but somehow a ameraucana split sfh cross egg got into the lco eggs so when a black chick hatched i knew it wasn't a lco, then i noticed it was more blue and had a nice big muff on its face, turned out to be a little beauty of a hen so i guess i will put her with these when they grow up.
but anyway, thanks for the help

Alright. Please excuse the coop. It was already here when I moved here. I cleaned it, disinfected, sprayed for bugs and put my birds in it. I had to put the Delawares in with the Ameraucanas, but here's my flock. All but one is from Peachick's stock (birds bought from her, hatched from her eggs and then 6 are bred and hatched by me from her stock and I have one lone pullet from White Mountains Ranch;s hatching eggs).

I am aware I have a single beard gene issue. I am also aware Dorian is lacking in a beard right now. The girls haven't given him much of a chance to regrow it. He does have one!

How's Dorian's type? I think he's pretty nice - still a bit ratty from molting (his wing feathers usually lay nice). But, I may be wrong. So, I ask. I want to replace him with a wheaten roo. Soon, too.
I know the white fluff is bad, but I have yet to see a blue wheaten without it.

Would anyone mind verifying my opinion on my blue ameraucana chicks, 5 1/2 weeks old, I believe I may have one male and one female here based on the comb? They seem much harder to sex than my other breeds. Maybe it's just my inexperience. If I can't tell now, at what point would I be able to tell?

ETA: here's Daddy, he is such a sweetheart of a rooster. Mama is a very nice looking blue but I don't seem to have a decent picture of her in my computer right now!

It is hard to sex them.... I think I see 2 roos. Pullets should not have any color at that age.

since i'm learning, whats wrong with what they quoted? thanks

There is so much wrong that I could probably write a 10 page paper on it. First of all the rooster has a single comb. He is not blue, he is not even a color that is accepted. I looked like all the hens were also varieties that were not accepted. I didn't even pay attention to the legs, it was so obvious that they were EE.

EE are great for an egg flock, but don't misrepresent your chickens. It belittles all of the efforts of people who are trying really hard to breed to the Standard of Perfection.
