Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I don't know what that roo looks like, but it's sure not an Ameraucana. I've seen (purposely bred) EEs that look way more like the standard than that guy!

I can see the train wreck coming a mile away...
since i'm new to this and don't know a heck of a.lot, he looks like he might be a wyandotte cross to me, the comb and wattles look wyandotteish

Hi,
I'm new to this thread and am not YET the owner of an Ameraucana, but I do have a hatchery EE (avatar) that we are very fond of. That's her in my avatar.

That being said, I planning for spring and want to get 2 new LF pullets about 4 months old. I'd like one ameraucana and one red or gold star. I'd like to get them from the same person to simplify the quarantine. Does anyone here know someone that raises and sells both in the Washington, Oregon, Idaho area? Jean, I love your birds, but I don't think you do Stars do you?

Thanks!

Hi all,

Would anyone on here have any experience in exporting or be interested in looking into it? I live in the UK and would love to get my hands on some beautiful ameraucana bantams, but I haven't had any luck in finding anyone who I can ask.

To import, I need a health certificate which would be issued by a vet. If someone can give me their vet's number, maybe I can enquire, if no-one else can.

Check out the ABC (Ameraucana Breeders Club) www.ameraucana.org. You might have better luck over there - and be persistent. You may actually have to join the club to post on their forum. Anyone NPIP certified in the US should be able to help you (have access to an avian vet) even if they don't know it. John Blehm (www.chickhatchery.com) ships to Canada. The same paperwork applies to get birds here so he might work with you and he has bantams. However, when we (Canadians) purchase, we have to pick up at a border point in the USA and do the import ourselves. Not sure how that might work for the UK.

Americans get enough business on their own side of the pond so they might not be terribly motivated to do the work. Talk to folks and keep at them!

Would be a heck of a trip for the birds/eggs. You'll probably have to buy LOADS in order for anything to survive. So you'll want to start with the best you can get your hands on.

Good luck!!

you can overnight air freight just about anything anywhere, you might have to be at the receiving terminal to expedite the customs, and you need to find out about any possible quarantine situation

USPS should have the answers, then finding a breeder that will help,,,,barngoddess gave you the right link to find one

good luck!!!

I think it is even harder to get birds into the UK than into the US. It s possible, just takes time paperwork and $$$$ or rather £££££££

I have two adorable sweet Ameraucanas. I've had them since they were three days old.

They are now almost 29 weeks old. Their combs are red and have been for a few weeks.

But no eggs yet!

I live in the Philadelphia area and of course the days are getting shorter. Might they not lay any eggs now that winter is coming until the spring? Or should they still lay some this year??

My French Black Copper Maran hen laid her first egg yesterday- she is between 29 and 31 weeks. I too thought we might have to wait until spring. Hang in there! Maybe she will lay very soon!

Thank you thank you! That does give me hope.
