Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I'm trying to breed toward the Wheaten/BW Wheaten Ameraucana SOP and I just wanted to ask a question. Is it true we want to stay away from flecks of black in the hens hackles and body? If so, I have a few birds I need to cull from my program. Thanks for any help.

White skin, green feet
Absolutely NOT Green shanks/feet.

White skin and slate (blueish-gray) feet/shanks.

Take a look at the leg color genetics.

If the shank color is Green (willow) then the epidermal color is Yellow.

If the shank color is Slate (blue), then the epidermal color is White.

I won't argue this further if basic genetics can't be agreed upon.

I had some barred chicks pop up too. So now I know.... I was surprised when I was it.
I hope what everyone is reporting is odd pigmentation.Otherwise I am going to have to relearn what I thought I knew about barring.Should not be recessive. Can be hidden under white. So it should be seen on colored bird when present.

oh wait! we were talking about legs? i thought you were talking about skin! yes your right about that! my BLA has greysh blue legs with white skin! im sorry about that! my other ameraucanas have yellowish skin so i was like, what???? of course its possible to have yellow skin! but i didnt reolize we were talking about the effect of leg color to skin color! Sorry bout that!
