Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I'm trying to breed toward the Wheaten/BW Wheaten Ameraucana SOP and I just wanted to ask a question. Is it true we want to stay away from flecks of black in the hens hackles and body? If so, I have a few birds I need to cull from my program. Thanks for any help.

I'm waiting for the answers to this as well, in the same boat here with a couple of my pullets

Does anyone know any good BBS breeders? I'm trying to start a breeding program of my own, as well as showing birds. I just love the breed so much!

Here are some laced project chicks.Hatched 20.Culling 6 because of cushion comb.1 or 2 i was unsure of.Mostly black as I expected but cockerels should leak some color.Rose comb x pea = cushion.Bred back to pea comb should be 50% cushion and 50% pea.As a bonus wyandotte combs hug tight to the skull.May make some nice tight fitting pea combs.

This is a cushion comb.Wide and no rows.

Go to www.ameraucana.org and look at the breeders list. I believe it's safe to say Paul Smith breeds some of the best blacks and he has blues. The breeders list will point you in the right direction for BBS Ams.

Ticking, black in the hackles and body, is not something you want in your wheaten birds.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought I understood leg/skin color to be
white skin = white epidermal on legs
yellow skin = yellow epidermal on legs.

Hello!

I am fairly new to Am's just hatched some lav, wheaten and mottled beauties in the last month.

I am intrigued by the mottled project. I really want to work on this bird but there's so few leads. I bought eggs from coyote night acres and I managed to get 2 to hatch, both appear to be hens, I still need a roo. I need any and all information on breeders, breeding this particular coloration and if anyone has any photos that would be wonderful. I can find so little, and it's frustrating. Thanks!

Get ahold of Joseph Woodiel or Rose Konold. Their info is on the ABC breeders directory. Rose has had losses lately, but Mr. Woodiel seems to have stock. My Motts are from him. Most birds that I have seen have way too much white, light eyes, and insufficient shank pigment.
