Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

My wheaten chicks are only 10 days old. How long does it usually take for their legs to turn slate colored? I noticed they are a little darker today, just wondered. I know they can be yellowish at first because of the yolk they consumed in the shell. These eggs I hatched were beautiful blue and came from a well known breeder so I trust they are true wheatens.

Look at Nicole01's picture, that "white" or light grey color is the same color my Blue Wheatens are at 7I weeks...hopfully someone with more wisdom will answer you shortly. I second the Wheaten Ameraucana thread!

I am thinking of adding 1 Ameraucana to my little flock. my hubby is allowing me to get 2 more incase some of my other chicks turn out to be roosters. (ive had extremely bad luck so far) My question is will one chicken lay both blue and green eggs or does each Ameraucana lay one color egg it's intire life?
Also are they docile and friendly I am looking for a pet :D

Here's my family's favorite youngster from a hatch six weeks ago. A blue ameraucana. Is it a pullet or a cockerel?
Thanks!

I'm not sure how your going to find just two chicks unless you buy locally. All mine came from breeders out of state since there are none locally here. I also joined the Ameraucana Beeeders Club. It's very difficult and expensive to find that blue or even aqua egg layer. Some pure Ameraucana's lay different shades of green. Right now I have 3 blue layer I hatched last year. They are two splash and a black hen. My two splash are extremely people friendly. They even walk to the neighbors to be picked up or pet. They snuggle in my arms. Ive never have had any hens do that before. I just hatched 6 more blue layers. I have 3-4 females and 2 males for sure that are 3-4 weeks old. I sit with them outside in a pen everyday for at least an hour, then my kids will for another 1/2 hour or so under a tree. These little ones are very friendly too. My wheaten male stole my heart. He's always sitting next to me and he lets me pick him up without running away. The females are starting to do the same, but I won't know their true temperament until they start laying. I'm only keeping one male if he's 100% non aggressive. I need a sky watcher for hawks and eagles.

The hens lay the same color egg for life as far as I know. I haven't seen a difference in my hens and I've owned chicken for a few years now. The pure Ameraucana's are my very favorite breed due to personality and my favorite layers. I get a lot of blue eggs from my 3 Ameraucana's. They lay everyday or nearly everyday.

These eggs are from my 3 hens. They are from Paul Smith's bloodline. He's a breeder in Texas and ships live chicks.

Here's an egg reference chart. You can buy these chart on the breeders website.

Wow. Beautiful eggs!

Wow.  Beautiful eggs!

Thank you. My wheatens and blue wheaten chicks came from an even nicer egg color. I'm pretty sure I have 4 female and 2 males.

I sell eggs for eating only and the blue eggs are the most talked about, except my neighbors get free eggs from me. I have different shades of brown layers in my carton too. I love the multi colored pack. Eventually, I'm going to have just the blue Ameraucana layers and Maran's and/or Welsummers. I love the look of the dark brown against the blue. :)

Picked up my first chicks today! Blacks and blues.

I love this shot

I have some 9 to 10 week old wheaten x buff crosses that are just turning or have just turned on the one. some of my cockerels I gave away had a week or two earlier.
I do not think there is a set time but I am not sure
