Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Hi All,

Here are some pictures of three from my latest hatch of Blue Ameraucana's. I never seem to get blue though, it is always black or splash! Can anyone confirm sex for me? Thank you!

Boy, didn't realize how fuzzy the chickens are! Background was obviously the focal point of the camera!

# 1 I think this one is a roo- comb is redder than the others and seems to be 3 wide

# 2 I am thinking this one is a roo too, even though the comb is not as red, it is pretty wide.

#3 This one is smaller and the comb is much narrower Another picture of #1

Another picture of #1

These are the birds I'm not keeping:

If you see any (especially the black cockerels) that I should consider over the one I've already chosen, your input would be greatly appreciated.

This one is nice, but he has buff in his cape

This one also has buff in his cape, but not as much

I like this one, but I'm not sure about his substance and his tail set seems a tad high

I like the lavenders, but I don't think I'm going to keep them, I have two cockerels and a hen

I just wanted to post a picture of my silly cockerel. He's so good with chicks that he's already earning his feed. He tries and calm them down when I move them after the broodies kick them out. If you rub his chest and belly he will lay down and relax. Here's his "What? Why did you stop?" look.

I have a blue splash cockerel hatched a day earlier than yours. He was much smaller than the same-age wheaten cockerels and developed a small red comb later than they did as well. He just looked like a pullet, and I kept hoping the comb was just a different comb than most pullets. Sadly, he is starting to grow pointy hackle feathers and the odd pointy saddle feathers. Where did your bird come from?
its actually a plus 10 both of his left foot webs punched and cut.

Mornin everyone, my 7 week old wheatan chicks are growing fast! I love it. I have four. 2 rooster chick confirmations, 1 pullet confirmation and 1 I am leaning towards pullet but wheatan breed coloring has proved tricky for me... Is this chick indeed a pullet? A wheatan pullet I thought due to the black wing tips, but see blue feathers now! Possible blue wheatan? Thanks for any opinions.

My wheaten and blue wheaten's are the friendliest chicks at this young of age. It will be hard to let go of the other two boys. Plus I have a buff silkie boy that just started to crow.

Your last chick is a wheaten female. The other 2 are blue wheaten's

The 3 pics are of the same chick. Except the last one has the rooster chick in it also (dark feathers). I thought she was a wheatan, then the blue showed up on her back. But no color on the chest, leading me to still think pullet but confused on color. Then thought blue, but the black confuses me lol and all the "splash" pullets I've seen are light, no black :/

Weird. My wheaten female has the black tips on her tail, but no blue feathers otherwise. Her body feathers are darker then the blue wheaten's too.

Here's my wheaten girl. She's soaked since it was just down pouring. She has black feathers in her wings

Sorry for the poor pics.

I would say you have a blue wheaten. I have a blue wheaten hen with tips on her tail, but they are blue

As tiny babies the wheaten's are white and blue wheaten's are yellow.
