What were his parents? Never heard of a BW Splash. I have a Splash Wheaten and it's similar but the body is white vice the pale blue.
God Bless,
here's a picture of the bearded fella.![]()
me too! Lol they're all three are from the same source but only one has the beard. They should be the same breed though but i guess only one got the beard trait.Oh my goodness! I love it! lol
My chicks are seven weeks old now and fully feathered. I would post pics but we've had nonstop rain here in Georgia for about a month so they'd be dark and dreary.
Since we're talking colors: when I first started out wanting Ameraucanas, I originally wanted BBS wheaten birds, I just loved the creamy color of the hens that reminded me of salmon Faverolles but less heavy-bodied. Unfortunately I had a hard time finding a local breeder of wheatens.
I found a breeder just starting out with wheatens about two hours away and ordered all five scheduled to hatch on a certain week plus ten BBS chicks to ensure I ended up with about 4-6 pullets, but due to fertility issues with the wheatens (new flock and all) I would only be taking home the BBS.
Then I started hoping for a few splash pullets, because it was my next favorite color. When hatch day came, due to an amazing fluke of genetic improbability, there wasn't a single splash chick in the entire hatch, so I brought home four black and five blue chicks.
So then I started hoping for blue pullets (third favorite color) and watched them grow. And sure enough, it looks as though all the cockerels in my flock, at least three, are the blues and all the blacks are pullets!
Then last night I was sighing over the fact that Mother Nature was really not working with me, and watching my birds run around and play, when I noticed that the feathers of the blacks have a beautiful green sheen to them in the light.
I immediately forced myself to stop appreciating them because I knew as soon as I started liking them, a tornado would rip through and blow them all away. LOL

yay! Any ideas about the white/yellow ones? They would all be EEs. Only silver Ameraucanas hatch out with this "wild type" down and they are quite rare. Congrats, they are cuties!
