Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

My chicks are 9 weeks along now, thought I'd share some pics.

This is my one confirmed roo. As of today he's the only one with a comb this big and pink. I'm still watching two other with wide combs that haven't started to color yet. I just can't believe I'd have just one roo out of 9 chicks.

This little pullet is a total ham, she stayed under my knees the whole time.

In the color wheaten......

Can you breed good color for both male and female, in the same pen?

Or, is it one if those colors where you need one group to breed a good male, and a separate group for a good female?

Plz im wondering if its a good idea to show them
Show them. They look like good stock.Pictures can be hard to judge.I see nothing wrong. The pullet has a nice green sheen and a nice full beard. The cockerel still has some growing to do and he will likely look better in a few weeks.

Here is the cockerel I am thinking of keeping. Comments, please! If he is good enough, I'll show him. He was hatched April 1. Pictures taken today, August 6.

I don't know anything about show quality chickens, but he came from a very reputable breeder (Paul Smith).

Thanks for your comments.

I like him..he needs more time and weight for show conditioning and his *man* feathers should start coming in thicker soon. He is going to be pretty. His lacing in spots is very nice and undefined in others. I think it will get a little better with time. He has that *look*.
