It depends on what you want to breed. Yes, black x splash will give you 100% blue. BBS and lav can all run together and produce BBS and split lavenders. The wheaties can all run together and you can get whetaen, blue wheaten and splash wheaten (depending on the color of you breeding roo).
With ALL due respect, I'm sure you'd be able to tell the difference in a Lavender and a light blue, or a Lavender and a Splash in a split second, but I'd seriously hesitate telling anyone else (especially someone newer to the breed) that it would be ok to let them run together and interbreed. It seems too many people are confused on whether their lighter blues are actually blue or possibly Lavender. Some aren't understanding that they're two separate genes, and that you can't get a Lavender from pure blues.
I got close to purchasing a Lavender Silkie from someone online last year, but then she called it a Splash Lavender! I asked her what she meant and she said she thought it might be both, but wasn't really sure. We mutually agreed that she needed to study the genetics a little more before the chicken was sold.
Edited to add... This was a well known Silkie breeder! Like I said though, I understand YOU know the difference, but...
