Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Really? That is one of the main reasons I kept this one. Thought the coloring was beautiful. I will have to look for a potential home for him then. Been trying to stay below the radar here and don't need any roosters announcing themselves....

What do you all think of this one? Ameraucana or Americana (EE)? Hen or Roo? It's about 30 weeks...hen posture, no crowing or other roo behavior...but those tail feathers have me wondering.

My EE's have very upright tail feathers. I cannot imagine that being an Am cockerel at 30 weeks. My 24 wkrs have gobs more feathers. It is rather strange that there are no eggs though. That would really tell the tail :D

CackleJoy...did you see the feather pictures I posted? What do you think of those? I would love it to be a hen. I guess time will tell!

Yeah... he is probably 999% a cockerel at this point

That's a great shot, by the way, for demonstrating to everyone what we mean by "pointed" feathers.
Thanks, HeartMoss Farm! I think you are right on the sex. I'm going to hang on to him until he starts crowing though.....he is such and interesting color. I'm beginning to think I'm not meant to get blue eggs though. The last EE I had was a hen, but laid plain brown eggs.

Ugh, that's definitely frustrating. I find that only about 1/3 of EEs lay the blue or green eggs, whereas the other 2/3 seem to lay cream or brown.

Really? I thought that was why they were called Easter Eggers...because they lay blue or green eggs. Well...maybe I will just have to be content with chocolate eggs from my Marans for exotic colored eggs....
