Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

That was not a big enough sample of eggs for lavender. I did 3 hatches before I got my first Isabelle Marans on the 4th. Just a few eggs at a time. 3-4. Now I am setting 10-12 at a time..... So far only 2 Lavenders.
I know, I hatched about a dozen eggs from my Blehm lav splits last year and only got one lav, but she is really nice. I am just happy to start building up a flock of quality birds.

OK, trying to get a handle on what I have here :) These are my Wheaten/Blue Wheaten Ameraucana chicks from Lark Rise's eggs - best hatch ever with shipped eggs! I know the ones that look like eagles are Wheaten cockerels. And I see one that looks quite obviously like a Blue Wheaten Cockerel because he looks like my little eagles except the black feathers are blue. Then I have the others that I am assuming are pullets :fl since they don't look like either of those, LOL! So that would mean of 11 I would have 5 Wheaten boys, 1 Blue wheaten boy, and 5 girls of some kind. But they don't all look the same so.... here we go :D Please tell me what you think.

All 5 Wheaten Cockerels all look like this one

The one I believe is a Blue Wheaten Cockerel is this one

I have one light one that I was thinking could possibly be a Splash (Blue) Wheaten pullet??

I have 3 that look like this one

I have one that looks a little different to me and I was thinking perhaps Blue Wheaten pullet? Here are 2 different angles

And then my one poor sweet cross beak with her gimpy leg. I think she had a stroke as she wasn't born this way, but it developed later. She will not be bred if she makes it. So far she has a heck of a lot of spunk and the others don't pick on her. Her crop is always full and she drinks from a nipple waterer just fine. So I will let her be part of the breakfast flock. Her name is Loca because she gets all excited when I come out and runs in circles flapping her wings and jumps up and down on my feet :)

so far 1 baby is out and 3 others are due today (but I suspect 2 are dead in shell).
one of my babies hatched completely white with a small bit of black on her wingtips and back. I will be keeping tabs on yours to see what my girl (hopefully) turns into!

Anyone know of anyone or if you are somone (ha best I can word that) who has good wheatens or lavender AM w/ that are currently laying? I'm looking to add more bloodlines to mine and always like references to good breeders :)

Hello all just got done reading like 400 posts. Bored at work. But i was wondering how long does it take to grow the muffs and beard back? My roo is always missing his. At first one side went now both think the ladies are eating it at night. This guy has had it ruff. Oct 12 dog attacked flock and him. Has had a tom turkey chasing him around for a few months till thanks giving and the ladies have always eaten his beard. I've recently started fermenting food so not sure if it makes his beard taste better. There aint a mite or sickness that would target only his beard fluff is there?

I wanted to show him next year but know nothing about showing. I'll post new pics of him tomorrow all the ones on my phone are old or bad. My first year with chickens i i love this breed so far. I only do ees as of now i'm wanting to breed black ameraucanas just have to find hatching eggs first.

Where are their beards and muffs?

This one above, looks like it is not an acceptable color.  The shanks look green, too.
They are still losing the last of their chick down and feathering in, only about 45 days old I think. They have little feather stubs on their little naked chins right now, LOL! I read that Wheaten's legs darken with age, and I do remember remarking on the paleness even of the adult wheatens when I visited Paul Smith's place - that was the first time I'd seen them in person. So I am guessing this coloration is acceptable with paler legs?? They were very pale at birth and seem to be getting grayish right now - though that pic makes them look more green. I am not sure what you mean by "acceptable color". They are purebred Wheaten Ameraucanas vs mixed breed or mixed colors (other than the possibility of Blue in the mix). Do you mean like for showing it would be a mark against it for being darker than ideal?

Thanks,

Melissa
