Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I agree with you there. I should have kept one more, but I guess im a bit too picky.

You had asked about his size too. He's got great size, especially for a BW, but I'm just saying that based off the eye test. I don't know his weight. That pic was pretty old, and I didn't realize which one I had posted until afterwards.... Here's the same cockerel a few months later, he's not in great shape feather-wise but I think he's feathered out alright.

Some project Mottled chicks! So fluffy...

And some project Lavender chicks from my birds!

Folks, after going through this horrendous experience, I have now have really good news to report. VDACS tested all of my chicks on Saturday and the results are in. All chicks were negative (clean!) for MG/MS.

Mr. Markley,
I just received the attached test results. All the samples that were collected on Saturday are negative. If you have any further questions, please let me know.

So I can finally move ahead. Many thanks to the folks who supported me and expressed concern, it was gratifying and very much appreciated.

That is great!

i have a friend who had a sport australorp show up within his flock of SQ birds....she was mottled! very cool. She is at my house now...project i am working on. Usually the genes that control the sport color or characteristic are recessive so not seen commonly but can pop up in any flock. I don't know about marketing birds as "sport, " sounds hokey.

I take allergy meds daily. 4 to 6 pills of benedryl. Im hoping its just that, but its awfully wierd to get sick so close to cleaning out the brooder.. maybe I can do a post in misc. And someone who has had it can tell me what its like. My allergies are draining badly and everything intensifies when its draining badly, but idk

I am very allergic to molds, dust and hay. When I have cleaned out my chicken house without a mask, which I have stupidly done, I can quickly get a sinus infection which can into your lungs, etc. Would not surprise me if that is what you have, but I am not a medical professional and I would suggest you get it checked out. Since I know what my problem is now, I will take a combination of Musinex(sp), antihistamines and good old oil of wild oregano. Allergy meds don't seem to work for me. The last one, about a month or so ago, came from working with moldy hay. Gets me every time.

On a much better note.....I received my 15 babies from Paul & Angela Smith yesterday. I was worried because they came from Texas to E. Tennessee during this latest cold spell. All were perfectly fine and after a couple of hours, they were running around, chirping and discovering food and water. Three blacks, 5 blues, 3 splash, 2 lavs and hopefully, 2 blue wheaten. They are gorgeous and I will have pictures soon.

Now I can be an official member of the board and no longer be a lurker, although I have learned a tremendous amount just by reading. Now, I have to go back and find out what all the web punches mean cause right now, I just know the slash on the right foot between the first two toes mean Lavender.
