Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I take allergy meds daily. 4 to 6 pills of benedryl. Im hoping its just that, but its awfully wierd to get sick so close to cleaning out the brooder.. maybe I can do a post in misc. And someone who has had it can tell me what its like. My allergies are draining badly and everything intensifies when its draining badly, but idk

A sport chicken is an odd color chicken from two same colored parents. I think he may be trying to sell you Easter eggers OR he may be referring to splash chickens from blue americaunas. What did the breeding chickens look like?

I'm thinking u might be right. It was splash like but its muff and back of neck Was yellow. Could have been a mash up of americaunas. He said they were very rare to FI d them that color

Hey Northie,
Not sure what your question was, but hopefully you found your answer. :)

I have to say I got excited when I seen your location because I’m on a little farm in SK too! lol Small world, eh. Are you on any of the Canadian poultry boards as well as BYC? Maybe we already have met/ or know each other?  :)

Kind of got an answer, it was a behavior question more than anything. I'm as new to chickens as my current chicks are old so I haven't really met anyone else with chickens yet lol :).
I've been reading stuff on a couple other forums but this is the only one I'm really on.

No....now that I've been looking at pictured. The back of its head reminds me of an EE.... I do however have about 6Amer in my chicks that I hope grow up to look as good as yours. Very nice

no this one is not mine, i got it from google to see if it might be similar to this one. and yeah technically any ameracauna that is not one of the 8 varieties is considered a EE so even if it's some rare ameracauna it would still be an EE

This is due to a forced refocusing due an unanticipated disaster that resulted in the loss/culling of all my adult chickens.

The following is the story line of what happened to my adult chickens.

*************************************

So bring a long story to closure, I will not sell any chicken, chick, or hatching egg which has been exposed to a disease. This has been an emotionally wrenching experience and a very expensive lesson. I had done well for starting out selling chickens, chicks and hatching eggs when this happened. So I am basically set back a year in my plans.

With respect to the ameraucanas, it is a breed that I really liked, admired, and with which I had done well. But I do not have the time, energy, and resources to deal with an aggressive breed that creates problems with other breeds.

Best regards to ameraucana breeders and owners. Ameraucanas truly are beautiful chickens. May be someday I will try them again.

Folks, after going through this horrendous experience, I have now have really good news to report. VDACS tested all of my chicks on Saturday and the results are in. All chicks were negative (clean!) for MG/MS.

***************************************************************

Mr. Markley,
I just received the attached test results. All the samples that were collected on Saturday are negative. If you have any further questions, please let me know.

So I can finally move ahead. Many thanks to the folks who supported me and expressed concern, it was gratifying and very much appreciated.

Cool. Well if you happen to be looking for stock, or just want to connect with other chickeners, come check out one of the many market style sales happening in SK this year. Next one up is in Watrous on April 26th. Unfortunately I'm not going to make that one, but I will have a booth at the summer sale in July in Moose Jaw. Hope to see you there. :)
