Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

We have 1 BW/W Ameraucana and 1 Welsummer eggs that are now hatched from HappyMtn

3 more to go!

Today is day 22, so I think the hatch is over. I hatched 6 white, 2 split, 1 lav & a mystery chick from Jean in my regular hatcher(LG). I tried hatching project eggs from Karen (Chicken Stalker) in my forced air hovabator so I could tell them apart. I only hatched 4... 3 of which are the project chicks & 1 mystery chick. I should've just put them all in the LG.

Hope I have a boy & 2 girls from the project eggs!

I'll take some pics of the mystery chicks later. The one from Jean came out of an egg marked "W" I think -- some of the down is pale yellow & some is greyish like a lavender or splash. It looks kinda smokey. Can't wait to see how it feathers out! We've had some silkies start with a silvery hue that feather out bright white.... maybe this is the ameraucana version of that. Karen said there might be an EE egg in there. I'm just guessing that she was right & hope it's a girl. Or maybe not all the project eggs look the same when they're hatched. This one has a little striping on it's back & was the largest chick hatched.

I also have 3 week old wheaten/blue wheaten ameraucanas from a local breeder. One mystery chick there too!

It had the striping & a dark head stripe when hatched. She said she occasionally has one like that pop up & assured me that her ameraucanas haven't been exposed to any other roos. If that one is a girl, she'll just go in with the other layers. She's not feathering out like the others, but is very pretty.

Congrats..that mystery chick from Jean is a white one..wait until you see it when it's starting to feather they look so funny gray body white wings. Here are some of mine that I got from her last month.Sorry about the bad pic..it was real cold and damp so they didn't get to go out to play on the grass for pictures. Some of the whites are yellowish the rest are the silver color I have one fully feathered I got from her earlier this Spring and he's

I need to get new pictures of these kids and my older kids they are getting so pretty now they are feathered and the roos this morning were so cute..feeling their stuff and little roo see my chest battles then they mess up and try it with an unimpressed pullet

I hope I'm correct with the gender & colors of these chicks. Please tell me if my guesses are wrong! These are my first ameraucanas.

Are these wheaten or blue wheaten? I think they're girls:

I think this one is a wheaten boy:

Mystery chick on the left with blue wheaten boy? maybe?

I also have 2 lavenders from Chicken Stalker. One of each.

The lavs look great. The other chicks look like EE's. The leg color looks incorrect and usually chipmunk strips means EE. The one dark chick (the photo of the top of the chick) does look like a wheaten cockerel. Did your project eggs hatch yet?

I don't think those are blue wheaten OR wheaten - Both should be a solid yellow color with only a small brown dot on the head. Those are chipmunk, and have miscolored feet. Also, wheatens and blue wheatens mature to a different color from that. I'm sorry to say, but I think those are Easter Eggers.

Love the Lavenders though.
