Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Question, I have a lavender ameracauna that I got at a swap last year. While I know lavender is a project color, how do they breed that color? Thanks.

Lavender is a dilution of black . It is recessive so breed lavender to lavender or lavender to black . One copy of lavender is a black carrying lavender that is referred to as a lavender split .

I have a yellow pullet that was sold as an Easter egger from the same store. She has not yet started laying
Eggs. I know the one is a Buff Orpington. Is the light yellow one also an Easter Egger?

Yes that one is also an Easter egger. True Ameracaunas can only be obtained through a breeder not a hatchery or a store that sells from a hatchery. Those are all easter eggers. I don't know why it's so hard for a hatchery to start over with true ameraucana stock instead of selling their Easter eggers. But I do like their Easter eggers though.

Since I started with 4 one day old chicks in March of last year this has been a learning year for me. I have never owned chickens or hens before. When I read up that Ameraucanas produced blue eggs I started to doubt that I had the breed the feed store said it was. The hens are not aggressive, they have good personalities. I just thought I bought Ameraucanas.

well they are not pure...but they do have some in their blood so I thought I would post
well hatching is done...16 altogether....
and ofcourse...I have to build another one...and still the fridgebator
