Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I gave my chickens canned corn for the first time today... HOLY COW! My two shipped cockerels seemed to know EXACTLY what it was, rushing right for it. The ladies stood back, confused, and wouldn't eat it at first...just pecked at it. But I think they're hooked now. I should have recorded it. It was pretty funny. Had to share. I had no idea it would be such a hit!

Yes anything in the black lines . Blue and lavender are dilutions of black . I mostly get extended in blacks but my lavenders seem to produce both types .
So if a lavender is ER based, it would be a solid color? And if E based, it would have cream belly? So what if it had both and was ERxE? Do you know which gene/phenotype would be dominant?

Not sure . I am sure I have had them . I do not really get into it much . I get both types and have not really bred for just one type . That is changing but I am just starting to select for this . Finally taking the advice of others . Seems a lot of extra pen space to have blacks for blue breeding and blacks for lavender breeding . I think I will go with splash and blue for blues and eliminate the production of black . Then lavender and blacks . You can see golden leakage sometimes but do not know what the chick color was . Leakage is rare in mine now .

I have a question with Wheaten/Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas. The beards, should they be dark from the beginning? My boys have white birds (1 W, 1 BW). I seem to recall seeing somewhere that someone said theirs came in as they got older. I had another person tell me theirs grow in color from the start.

I would love to hear your thoughts, thanks!!
