Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Also on striped chicks there is a difference on the stripes for male and female . If I remember correctly the female has a more defined brown stripe that runs from the top of the head down through the neck without any breaks (gaps) . The males stripe is broader irregular and has a gap in the neck area .
Alright, now I gotta make a list. My first thought was that I don't want any striped chicks in my hatch, then I remembered my test hatch is going to primarily be EEs. Always something else to learn, but that makes chickens even more exciting!

Hey guys,

Would y'all mind giving me some feedback on these guys? I have about a dozen of their eggs in the incubator and another dozen from my blues.

I know these pics are a little too shady, but they have pretty decent sheen. Horatio seems to be a lot "Thicker" than Ed Teach.

Also I haven't thought of a name for the girls since I can't 100% tell them apart :)

Enjoy!

Pretty. I wish I had a black roo, but only have blue. I think they are beautiful. I hope someone answers the thickness question. One of my black hens is a little thicker looking than the other.

On blacks watch toe color . When based on birchen (ER) on gender has light tips . I forget which gender . Not sure if it is er or ER either . Anyway Mike Gilbert made this observation and posted on the Ameraucana Breeders Club website last year I believe . Anyway the birchen based are all black at hatch . Extended blacks (E) have white wing tips .

Does that hold true for blues also? If based on ER what do they look like at hatch? Because I've never seen a solid blue chick.

This is my ameraucana Mata Hari. I like to call her my little chicken muffin!

Yes anything in the black lines . Blue and lavender are dilutions of black . I mostly get extended in blacks but my lavenders seem to produce both types .

So, if I hatch blue chicks that are displaying the cream chest, belly and muffs, it is likely based on E? I honestly thought that description is what they were supposed to look like. I know many blue chicks pheno does fit that description, it's even shown as the pheno at ABC. Sure would like to see a blue chick pheno based on ER. I know some breeders believe blue should be based on ER.

Yes and the wing tips are cream also . Black extends into these areas as they mature . Not sure what my blues are . I should have some chick pictures later . Blues have only started to lay a little .
