that second pic made me chuckle, like it's saying "you talkin to me?"

my ameraucana aren't handled but are my friendliest chickens, my girls go through phases of wanting attention to not wanting to be bothered but they are never flighty(except when they are chicks, I think they think I want to eat them) or mean. Pretty girls

One of my Ameraucanas, Gypsy, insists that you carry her around like a purse. Gonna get that girl a shoulder strap so I can do my chores while holding her, LOL. Her mother also loves to be held and my splash girl loves to snuggle every morning with DH when he goes out to do chores--she chatters and gets louder and louder and shuffles back and forth on her feet, begging to be held. Only one is standoffish, and even she asks to be held occasionally. They are a super friendly breed, overall.

2 of my POL pullets are super friendly, one is stand-offish. I can walk right up and pick them up even when they are free ranging. When they were little they would "talk" to me if they couldn't get up on the high perches. They'd wait for me to come in and pick them up- too cute. Sometimes I think they caught the "friendly" from being so close to my cochins

They aren't as annoying as the cochins though- I can't get anything done when they are out because they won't stay off my feet.

Yah! Someone near me (Think his name was Clionski?? (sp?) ) Had brought a blue cock to a show in delaware that had red leaking in it's shoulders, also, Cottage garden says she has seen leaking in her splash birds.

Well, as I had mentioned to you when we were talking about faults in Ameraucanas I was pretty dissapointed to see the leakage develop on a splash cockerel @8 months
as he was from ABC member stock. Obviously he wont be bred and we are onto a replacement roo from Paul Smith to fix the problem in the breeder flock.
That's why we call it selective breeding, bc all kinds of stuff can pop up.

Yes, And I would love to get some birds from you because your egg color is Utterly Stunning! Tell me how that Paul Roo goes for you

Love all the chick pictures! Welcome to our new members!

Jean, I've tried twice, but have yet to get a good picture of the Black/Silver split male you sent along with the pullets (who are just gorgeous by the way). The close ups keep turning out blurry. I hope you can at least get an idea from this picture I took about two weeks ago. He has no silver anywhere that I can see. He's really getting on up there in size and is already larger than my Lavender rooster. Not sure of his age, but that seems fast........but thats what you were going for, right?

Hi Everyone!

I have some Blue Wheaton Ameraucana chicks I am growing out and was wondering if anyone was willing to comment on them? https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=350291 I have a buyer for pullets that I may not want. I need the best roo out of the bunch. I know it is kind of early, but... It was a straight run from BluePoultry. I also bought some BLRW at the same time. Had a few fatalities at time of shipping and the day after, but I think it just had to do with shipping. NOT complaining about the breeder, he was great and reimbursed me for lost chicks. I have one (BLRW) now that was fine, but now his leg is turning out/backward. It seems to be turning at the hip. He may be the chick that bailed out of the brooding box and landed about 2.5 feet down on the floor. It was carpeted...I have it by itself on some paper toweling. It has only been 24hours, we'll see what happens.

When we got our shipment one of the BWA's had legs that were "backward" at the "elbows" or in medical terminology-subluxed. She was a poor pitiful thing. We put her in quarantine in a 5 gallon terrarium lined with paper towels and dropper fed her sugar water and polyvisol for a week. To our amazement she became stronger. At that point we put one of the other smaller chicks in with her. I think her pal helped her figure out how to eat and drink on her own. She is now in a pen with all the rest of the chicks her age and it is getting hard to tell which one she is. When our shipment came in we had ordered week old and day old chicks and I think she ended up being crushed, that is what I came up with anyway.

Thanks and have a great day!

You have to remember he is standing next to silver pullets. They are running around 3-3 1/2 lbs, so he's probably not all that big. I suggest you weigh him for a better idea of his actual size.

Ameraucana weight standards:

Cockerels 5 1/2 lbs
Cocks 6 1/2 lbs

Pullets 4 1/2 lbs
Hens 5 1/2 lbs
