Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I want to buy those birds, but the seller is just stressing me out. It's been like pulling teeth to try and get her to send me any additional pictures, and then the ones she does send are horrible quality and too dark to see anything. I asked her to send more pictures... That I wanted to see a close up of the face & comb, chest, legs, and a picture of the eggs her hens lay. She sent me one picture of the comb. And said "the eggs are smaller than my Marans". No pics of the eggs. I hope she doesn't take it as rude, but I told her I've never spent this kind of money on birds before and if she wants to sell them she will have to send me better pictures. Makes me leery... But could just be my anxiety.

For that kind of money, be patient and get exactly the birds you want. I wish I had taken more time when I was just getting started. I didn't realize how many people were keeping chickens much better than I could find locally. The birds in the pic look pretty good to me, but I'm new to this breeed. I would be more concerned with the seller's attitude. Someone with quality birds and eggs would be more than willing to provide pictures. Unless you are set on buying adult birds, I would highly recommend ordering directly from Paul Smith

Thanks for that advice. How can I purchase from him directly?

How much would you expect to pay for a quad of "show quality" ameraucanas: 1 rooster, 1 hen, and 2 four-month-old pullets?? I have never spent this much, much less PAID for a rooster. Lol I want to make sure I am not over-paying. She mispelled as "Ameracunas" which raises a red flag. But she said they came from Paul Smith lines. Thanks in advance.

Here are some pictures of the birds:

It depends on your local and I guess how bad you want them and how bad he wants to sell them. Prices some of these people are paying, well, I wished they lived near me. I imagine Raceland doesn't have many Ameraucana's so that would be a plus for the seller. Where I'm at, people balk at paying twenty dollars for a hen or pullet. Doesn't matter what breed it is or whether it just won Grand Champion. Males go for even less. Ameraucanas are desired, but not at high prices.
Hard to tell whether they are show quality from pictures. The birds look legit, but lots of things go into show quality. From what I see, the hens in the second pic do not look show quality to me.

Can you tell me what you see that does not look show quality. I am learning with mine for the first time

We are selling our Easter Egger pullets (5-6 months old) like hot cakes here for $20 a piece... So that price didn't really bother me as much as the seller's attitude. She never did send me pictures of the eggs, and ever question I asked she danced around it... which made me leery. So I just decided to order chicks from Smithey Poultry!

Hopefully there is a black roo in the bunch.

I have never ordered anything from Smithey Poultry but I believe others on here have. Their flocks look great, but no way will I believe that the egg pictures are not photo color enhanced. Doubt you will ever see an egg that blue. If I am wrong, that would be great. I too, am hoping for a black roo in my current hatch in progress. I am planning on this being the last until next spring.

I also live in a rural area and just offered to hatch some BBS, but the most he would give me is $4. Since they had yet to be hatched, I declined the offer.

He clearly states on his Facebook page that the blue eggs pictured on the main page of his website are from his CReam Crested Legbars. And as far as enhancing... I usually have to enhance my photos as well because everything washes out the natural blue color.
