Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I saw him, he was gorgeous. I'm really, really excited about these birds. My blue rooster is a little leaky, but he's getting some BCM hens for an OE pen

You say your Blue rooster is a little leaky! Can you show a picture of the leakage please!

I rehomed my blue roo because of leakage. Is it common? Why does it happen? Can it be bred out?
It indicates cross breeding with a different color variety. It's how blue Wheatens were developed years ago, but there are still leaky males popping up even in the best of lines. It can be very, very difficult to breed out.

It may be hard to see on mobile, but if you are on PC or tablet, look in the center of his left shoulder. You can see a few of the leaky, brassy looking feathers. They don't really take away from the look of the bird, but they are noticeable, and I learned it was a trait to cull for, so that's why he gets the BCM pen

The Blue Roo I rehomed had white showing up in his hackles. My good black can cover the BCMs and the Ameraucanas for now. One less roo for me to feed. I forgot all about him and it has only been a couple of weeks since I rehomed those four roosters. Two BCMs and two Ams (blue and Lavender). There was nothing wrong with the Lavender I just don't know enough about them to get into breeding them. I have blue, black and lavender pullets.

That's what kept me away from the lavenders. I'm just learning to breed myself, so I don't want to overcomplicate it. That is a really pretty color, though. I'm really looking forward to the chicks that splash rooster throws. He's gorgeous, but I don't know if the splash will lighten up the blue, or if he will throw the same blue as a blue rooster would. He just has such a pretty shape, and the most spectacular tail I have ever seen, so he's going to be the main man

I don't have any Splash. He is so pretty. If it lightens up wouldn't it work to throw a black/black back into the mix.

I haven't had time to read this but looks very informative.
