Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I don't have any Splash. He is so pretty. If it lightens up wouldn't it work to throw a black/black back into the mix. I haven't had time to read this but looks very informative. https://scratchcradle.wordpress.com/2012/07/22/gms4-incomplete-dominance-of-blue-feathering
I've seen that chart, and that's why I've kept a cockerel of each color. Do any of the breeders on here know of the best combination to achieve a dark blue, or will the genetics of the cockerels determine that, not their individual coloring?

And my favorite, the splash

He is very pretty! Maybe I should add some splash to my order! lol

Didn't you say you were getting some blues? If you breed a blue rooster to a blue hen, 25% of those offspring will be splash

Yes I ordered blue/black and Wheaten/Blue Wheaten! I went out last night to close up my chickens and saw something go over the top of my chicken house! It was either a cat or mink but couldn't tell because it was dark. Just a guess! We had seen a mink about 2 months ago.I am not sure if they got taken then or a couple days ago a young eagle or very big hawk was in our trees! In the pheasant house they where all on the ground and not where they roost. All of the turkeys where puffed and one was off the roost in the house where the two 14 week old ameraucanas where missing! We are going to set a live trap tonight!

If it's a mink I hope you get it. They will kill many at a time for fun

I breed for good size but not all of them are that beefy . Working on it . Yours probably have some filling out to do . Paul has some of the best around .

You know, I got to looking at the last few pics I posted, and you are right. He has filled out a lot just in the last month. I guess I just don't notice it as much because I see him every day, but these two pictures were taken only 4 or 5 weeks apart
